December contest topic needed
these are the topics leftover from Nov:

Warmth
April
Fire
Red
Feet
Hands
Bugs
Motion
Personal Possessions
Water
Downtown/uptown cityscapes

Anyone have additions to consider before I put up a poll?

2. I love the first two you suggested
Compromise sounds cool, too, though I have no idea what my reptile brain could figure out for that one. Birds is a good idea, too, though I could see it becoming a macro-dominated competition. The idea of birds in flight or birds in some context would be a fine theme.

All this is to say I have no ideas of my own, so I'll just second what you've suggested.

3. With xiamiam's addtions... looks like you have a full hat
Water has already been done. Juat a FYI. That's not to say we couldn't do it again. The last time Water was the theme the photogroup was filled with mystery and intrigue. :P Some say that Water brought out the photogroup ghosties. This place is haunted don't ya' know.

4. Last month
someone suggested 'surrealism'. I have no idea what that would be like but it might be fun to try.

Not too crazy about hands and feet as a topic, though.

21. Surrealism would be fun
The surrealists of the 20's and 30's are some of my favorite artists and a big influence on me. It would be really interesting to see how GD or the Lounge reacts to a surrealist contest. It would be hard to pin down exactly what fits the theme the best though. Myself when I think of surrealism I think of everyday objects viewed or portrayed in an unusual way but someone else might have a completely different idea of what's surreal.

Check out Lee Miller's Egypt gallery for some excellent examples in the Photo Gallery and Print Sales section of the site. http://www.leemiller.co.uk/

9. The spirit of the season.
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 07:38 PM by superconnected
No not religious, I was trying to say 'xmas if you want it', and 'the good will of the season' if you don't celebrate xmas.

I figure I can take a freebie extra suggestion since someone else picked up cats with 'cats and dogs'. Which actually makes more since.

10. For the sake of
my own fragile photo contest psyche I say cats and/or dogs take a month off.
I've not yet recovered from the trauma.

if that's the case, you should note it in the submission thread - "No animals allowed" or something.

Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 02:32 PM by Mz Pip
'Tis the Season' idea. Solstice, Hannuka, Christmas, etc. would all fit.

Stillness was another one that was suggested last month.

12. I think it'd be interesting to see how everyone does the same subject.
Edited on Fri Dec-01-06 10:18 AM by TahitiNut
There's a varying perception of how much the subject matter counts independent of the skill and creativity of the photographer. Children. Pets. Famously scenic areas. Photogenic people.

What would it be like to select some common object(s) that everyone can obtain/access and see how differently folks do with it?

This is only a half-baked idea ... don't know what object, for example ... but it wouldn't be a generic class of objects (like 'rocks' 'hands' etc.) but something far more spcific (like "the Golden Arches" or "a 2005 VW bug" or even "front door wreath").

Just thinking off.

13. Festival of lights
It could be Christmas decorations, or other lights that set the mood for the winter festivals.

You won't even need to go outside in the cold to join in.

14. This is a good idea
but we generally do it as an exhibition instead of a contest - just a thought.

17. Doing it as a contest would make people look for different
ways to capture the subject. If it was just a display people would show the light shows in their neighborhood.

How does the light reflect off the ornament? look how the tree looks from outside the frosted window.

I want to put Tickle Me Elmo in a Manger scene.

18. Two suggestions from earlier this month that deserve consideration:
TahitiNut's idea of picking a novel or story and photographing something to illustrate it, and NV Whino's idea for shots taken at 1/8 of a second.

Both good ideas, and a lot more appealing than snapping, say, bugs or feet.

scares me. I'll have to find the manual for my digital camera and try to figure out how to do it.

20. We can't do 1/8 second yet, I haven't read my manual
Edited on Sat Dec-02-06 02:03 AM by 48percenter

Bad 48%er. 12/12 our photogroup will be getting together and taking pix at the Xmas markets. Maybe someone can show me how to use the manual setting. LOL.

Yeah Blue, the DVD is on order, but I don't come back to the States until mid-January.
