Denver isn't the only place where it snows...
"Neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night..."

Yes, that's a moose on my street. I thought it was a dog when I was taking the picture.

1. Oh come'on. That is the ever elusive
Alaskan version of the chupacabras! Wow, that is a lot of snow, but I bet you are used to that. We are still in the 60s down here in Texas.

2. Brrr!
I'm glad I'm visting you in the summer. :scared: <-- Me, shivering.

So I'm very glad indeed to be in Mississippi. It's muggy and rainy and 70 degrees. B-)

4. Oh, I'm sympathizing with you.
I remember those Colorado snowstorms...it's nothing like that up here, I'll be the first to admit, at least not here in Anchorage. But Valdez got three feet in 24 hours with this storm, so that's probably pretty comparable. Thompson Pass outside of Valdez averages almost 600 inches == 50 FEET -- of snow every winter and one year in the '50s had almost 975 inches. That's just crazy. I'm glad to live here where we very seldom get snowed in.

5. I'm just funnin' with ya'
And I love your photos. A Moosie? Kewl. We won't get our mail tomorrow. Maybe Saturday. There is NO way to get down our street. There's a Jeep that tried that's stuck about a block or so down.

Last winter I never even had to shovel our drive. This is one of those rare storms. Tomorrow we have to dig out the mini-van and shovel the 4 feet of snow in our drive. At least get the F'Mobile off the street before they plow. Cabin Fever is starting to set in. Not sure we can get out cause' they say they won't get our street plowed until maybe next Tuesday. Glad I ventured out to get "supplies". The thought of eating P&J sandwiches and Rice for 4 or more days didn't sound real appealing.

If a little snow melts off a tomorrow I'll go out at night with tripod and try to get some light & shadow snaps. The snow is quite beautiful at night. Forecast says we're getting a little more snow on Saturday. I really feel for the people trying to get "home" for Christmas.

50 feet of snow? That's just insane. I know people that live above tree line here in Colorado that probably get close to that. Never understood the "appeal" of living somewhere so isolated during the winter. Guess you could sit next to the fire and read a few dozen books. :eyes:

6. I posted some photos from the Denver blizzard in the Lounge
They are here if you want to view them...

It was my first blizzard, ever! Staying home was OK, except for the not getting paid part and the shoveling my Bronco out of four feet of snow part... It looks beautiful out there, though.

7. They PLOW your friggin' road ??
Edited on Fri Dec-22-06 02:13 PM by F.Gordon
Nice series of photos, but the plowed road pisses me off. Not for you... that's great. We used to be part of a County (not part of any city).... then some asshole repukes decided to suck us into this new "city". We pay 2 1/2 times more taxes now and have 1/2 the services we had from before.
:grr:

I went more for the artsy snaps. :P This was done using diffused fill flash angled UP.. slow sync.. the flash filled the sqaures with little pockets of light.

...and a "normal" slow sync. This is a 1 second hand held exposure using fill flash.

So close. Yet, so far :eyes:

Looks like the neighbors are trying to dig out a "car path" down our street... I better get out there and help out...
:woohoo:

8. Yes, Boulder County is great about that
We are on the school bus route, so we are one of the first roads to get plowed up here.

Love that first photo... so pretty! I was too cold and too lazy to do any artsy photos.

Try to keep warm out there!

11. Sympathies, F.
But ya got some cool shots there. The first one woulda been great contest material: Winter Waffle. The diffused fill flash worked beautifully.

15. What a cool artsy shot!
The part I liked best about Denver snow storms is how quickly they melted. Are you out from under bulk of the snow yet?

16. Melting..... very slowly
This reminds me of the 1982 Christmas Blizzard. Problem then and now is that there is nowhere to put the snow because it is not melting. I'm also reminded of how many assholes we have as neighbors. Spent the bulk of yesterday digging out our drive and getting our toyota mini-van "free". Was going to go for a walk last night and get some light & shadow snaps but I was too tired. People are still getting stuck on our street because it's really not a "street". It's more of a winding snowy path barely wide enough for one vehicle.

We're going to venture out today. Jus'.... because we have a bad case of Cabin Fever.

10. Darn neighborhood varmints, huh?
Here in what's jocularly described as the Great White North, temps are in the 50s (not that the crazy iceheads measure temps that way - but we do). It's been pissing rain since early this morning. It's beginning to look a lot like... mud.

14. Yo Blue, you are getting our snow, could you send it
East? (or West) whichever is quicker? Not a lick of snow here in Germany. Beautiful sunshine and cold, but no snow, and certainly no white Christmas. :(

20. We watched First Descent last night
Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 01:48 AM by 48percenter
All about the history of snowboarding. I am not a boarder myself, my hubby -- being athletic, has tried it and says it is really quite difficult. We watched this movie last evening, and it was filmed in Valdez AK. This group of snowboarders (two old-timers from the 80s - HA, that makes you laugh!!! - and two young kids, up & comers in the sport) went heliskiing out in the wilderness areas. It was actually an interesting movie, we like sports documentaries: surfing, climbing, etc.

I just bought a pair of the skiboards, they are short skis (99cm) and a little wider than your typical alpine skiis. I am anxious to try them out after I return to Europe in February. IF, if, we get any snow. :)

And yes, we are coming to Alaska, one of these years, our cousins are moving to Vancouver, so that would be a great stopping point for an Alaskan adventure. By then I should know how to operate my camera too! ;)

Happy Holidays in Snowy AK...
