managed to move my entire non-backed-up directory of images to another directory, which, coincidentally, Vista decided to delete because they were "temp" game files

21,000 or so images gone

but, there is good news.... found some software called photosrecovery which can rescue the files... but we have lost the directory structure and filenames

Only thing I can offer is my sympathy and this bit of a peek into something to look forward to:

Then they have children themselves

come to visit

they can have a turn at

Hope you manage to get your files recovered and put back together. I imagine she's feeling almost as bad about it as you are. Give her a hug in spite of it all.
