Good news on lost pics
Got them all back, with file names and directory structure using a great program Restorer2000... which should be part of windows... well, it will be once the Bilgatus of Borg steals it, drives them out of business and claims HE invented it

anyway, all is gut now

2. WooHoo!
So glad for you. The way it sounded, you were facing a long, drawn-out and iffy ordeal.

I try to remember to back mine up once a month onto the MyBook thing, but have been lackadaisical about it.

Seriously considering putting a second drive into this computer, too (there's an extra bay for it), specifically for all the photo stuff. Guess I should stop considering and just do it. Your near disaster is a good reminder.

Sometimes, life feels exactly like this...

3. a tad more cost
but I use a couple 1 terabyte USB drives for backing up my pics. There are certainly others - but these are the ones I have.

4. Excellent, WJMS.
I know how I've felt when I've "lost" 100 pages of transcript that I've just finished typing (it's happened more than once). I can't imagine how I'd feel if I lost my photos. I try to get mine off the computer at least every couple of months, but I should probably do it more often.
