Critique (or at least look at?) my NBA shots from last night
We were 6 rows up, so great location.

The Arena in Oakland lets you bring in a camera with a lens <3" long, so I shot with my 85mm f/1.8 lens. Afterwards I realized I could've brought in a longer lens, no one every really checked. Next time.

All comments welcome. This is the first NBA game I've shot, and it was great fun, especially from those close-up seats!

2. Nice shots
I love that one with the Make Noise sign.

I'm not sure a longer lens would have given you any better photos, those are really good.

3. Thank you!
A longer lens would have let me shoot the other basket, and also get closer cropped shots without loss of resolution, but I shouldn't complain, it was a great photography experience!

4. Damn. These are awesome
I have several faves. It's always exciting when you can connect you and your camera to an event like this. I haven't been to a Hoops game in years.

Very nice!!

6. Basketball is great for photography...
as I just learned at this game. The action is close, and there's lots of it. Turns out those cheaper end of court seats we had (cheaper being a relative term, they were still pricey) are better for pics than the center court shots. We were dead on with the basket, just about.

Thanks for the comments.

I have some surfing shots to clean up and post, from the Mavericks contest this year, but it's daunting -- I took over 900 shots.

9. Can't imagine the Hawks
have fans - at least not since the days of Dominique Wilkins :-)

Grew up a 76's fan with Wilt, Dr. J and Charles etc.

I suppose if I'm a fan at all anymore I'm a luke warm Cavs fan.

8. VERY nice photos...
...but, although the NBA may allow you to photograph its games, I'm pretty sure they don't allow you to sell those photos without their written permission.

10. Thanks, and you're right...
I should turn off the "buy these pics" thing on this gallery. I had to do that on my photos of Mavericks surf contest for the same reason.

I don't sell any of my photos, just do it for fun, and my family sometimes buys prints for themselves.

11. nice shots
In a newspaper, I'd publish 29 on the front of the sports page and then 15 and 25 on the inside. So yeah, you did a good job and those look professional!

12. Great set of photos
Loves me some hoops, so these just dig in and burn in a very satisfying way.

Fine work here. Take a bow!

13. Very Nice
The only thing I would suggest is using a wider aperture, to bring the action even more to the foreground.
