6. I'm just starting to get accustomed to using GIMP. It's not just getting
to know the filters, but to get to know how to see your work. It's still a blunt instrument to me, but then until you get the hang of Photoshop, it can be a bludgeon.

3. The plant is a chick and hen. The plant spreads out with clones.

Hens and chicks is another name for the plant.

Look at this image to see why it is called what it is called.
Got this image from flickr

12. I have about 3 dozen hens
ADORE the eggs,of course.......... load up their 'yard' with a years worth of leaves every Fall, dump my compost bucket in there every day- and they scratch, turn and poop to produce CUBIC miles of the best compost in the world! They save me so much money it's not even funny.

I love my chickens.
Don't keep a rooster but when this hen decided to be broody I borrowed a neighbor's rooster and was able to give her some fertile eggs to set on. She did an OUTSTSANDING JOB of it, too!

I love Peeps in the morning...was just out there worshipping
them.............

13. There's nothing better than warming your cold hands under a warm
hen in the morning. Collecting the eggs was my morning task. An egg straight from the coop is a taste treat.

I used to have knock down drag out fights with our rooster. I learned how to defend myself by fighting that big rooster. Hated that bastard. I would stand my ground. I got spurred and pecked, but he got flying fists and feet. My final revenge was sitting on the bushel basket after dad cut off his head. I got to dip his carcass in boiling water, then plucking the feathers off his dead body.

17. the buggers can be M E A N
I always give away any roosters I end up with here. But, I could easily 'do the deed' if need be. I won't keep one that attacks.

7. F.Y.I. In other words, how I did it.
I made the eye the background image, then created a layer of the plant over it. I then adjusted the transparency of the plant layer so I could align the image properly. I then used the erasure tool and took away the plant layer over the pupil. I then restored the plant layer (top layer) to 100% opacity. I used the blur tool to soften the transition between the eye and the plant where needed. I adjusted the curves and saturation to add to the surreal feel. Used the unsharp mask, then faded that filter down to about 20% opacity.

I keep forgetting to add the steps used for obtaining a certain effect. I also need to pay attention and remember what I do to get what I effect want so I can do it again and tell others who may ask how I did such and such effect. Whatever.

We shouldn't forget to pass on what we have learned.

15. I think we should all try to remember to pass on our methods. I'm still
a rank amateur, but I have the time to learn and pass on what I learn.
