Okay, so I haven't checked in for a while, sorry :P
But, I'm happy to report that soon I will be back in full swing after a season without doing much.

I traded my D200 up to a D300, sold by 80-400 Sigma lens and just today, picked up my dream lens that I've wanted for years:

70-200 f/2.8 VR . . . I'm drooling already :)

1. That's a beauty.
If it's anything like Canon's 70-200 f/2.8 L lens, you're going to love it.

2. From everything I've read, they're very comparable.
I can't wait to really put it through it's paces.

I should get a chance tomorrow at the Science Museum in Cambridge. . . at least partially.

We're going to a Butterfly exhibit they have that's ending soon. I wish I had a good macro lense, but we'll see what I can do with this.

Also, on the 9th, we're going to the aquarium in Boston which should give me a good opportunity to test it out (on the penguins and such).

My next toys will be a 24-70 f/2.8, a 90mm f/2.8 macro (probably the Tamron) and a teleconverter for this lens (a 2.0 would be sweet).

3. That 24-70 is also very good.
I use that one a lot for my landscapes (the Canon version, of course).

4. I'm really wanting to explore photojournalism, and that lens combined with this one
are the most "necessary".

I may buy the Sigma 24-70 to fill in until I can afford the Nikon. It's not as good, but it may suffice.

5. Self-adjusting my hue in Photoshop...trying to lose "envy green"!
Congrats on that wonderful chunk of glass!

I picked up a 18-55 VR to replace my "kit" 18-55 that came with my D50. I love the VR! My step son got the 55-200 VR recently and that's what convinced me to make the swap.

I saw your list of "nexts" and while the Tamron is nice, spend the $$ and do the 105 VR micro Nikkor! :)

7. Probably a good idea . . . the VR would be worth the extra few hundred I think
Not that I'm wealthy or anything, but I can probably find a way to do it after I finish paying for this one (put it on a new Visa that had a 1 year 0% interest promo).

8. As soon as I get a chance :)
The museum trip was postponed until tomorrow and I'm not sure how much good this would do there anyway (since it's not really a close-up lens at all).
