That last shot is my favorite. He seems both curious about you yet also seems to be posing. :)

6. Unfortunately, he's a captive . . . |
|
:(
My GF had her cousins from out of town come to visit (aged 9-15). We had originally planned on going to the New England Aquarium (which would have been much better in my opinion), but instead wound up going to the "Ecotorium" in Worcester.
This place had some okay exhibits, but their animals seemed to be, while well fed, very uncomfortable (they had a polar bear sitting out in 90 degree plus weather with a small pool to keep him cool (not a tiny pool, it was big enough for her to swim in, it couldn't have been very cool water with sun beating down on it from all directions and a window opening to it that also let in sun (magnifying glass effect?).
Anyway, this little otter was VERY social, but was also a captive, they had a freakin' electric fence surrounding his enclosure that was only 7 or 8 inches high.
Unlike the bear, he seemed to be very happy in his environment though, he was hamming it up for people and had plenty of energy.
The only other thing that pleased me about the place was that they had some bald eagles and owls that they'd rehabilitated (the two eagles looked like they'd had badly broken wings in the past).
Overall, I wasn't thrilled, but I did get some nice shots of the otter. . . . poor guy.

Is that what they're now calling the place that has the train going around the property? As I recall they had a polar bear with a pool where you could see him swimming (not big, but enough for him to swim), and a fairly big eagle aviary. I think it used to be called the Worcester Center for Natural History, or some such. I took my son there when he was little (20 years ago), and if the same place, you're right, the New England Aquarium would have been a much cooler place to visit. I had my son's 8th birthday party at the aquarium and I'll never forget one of his little friends running around for the next few months talking about the sharks in the big center tank. :-) But the Worcester place was probably a lot less expensive, and the kids probably had a pretty good time, so it's all good I suppose.
