Official calendar announcement thread!! |

I realized that I haven't had one really central thread, so this is it.
As of right now, submissions are now closed. Over the next two weeks I'm going to be going through the submissions to make sure they fit the guidelines and giving anyone whose photos do not meet the requirements the opportunity to fix them, either by resending the original image or by replacing it with a new one. I'd hoped to do this before now, but I just haven't had time.
If you do not hear a reply from me immediately, it is not because I am ignoring you!!! I'm trying to get graduate school applications in at the moment so I am a little swamped (along with all the normal stuff like work, etc.) Please don't take offense! :-)
That's it right now. Any questions, comments, etc., please ask them here or pm me. I will put any future announcements on this thread as replies, so please keep an eye on it.

I have finally had the chance to get through everyone's beautiful submissions, and over the last couple of weeks I have sent emails to whoever's submissions did not meet the photo guidelines. Please note: if you received an email, you have until this Thursday, October 16th, 7:00pm E.S.T. to send me a replacement! If you did not receive an email you should assume that your submissions met all of the guidelines.
Calendar selection will begin this coming weekend.

I don't remember seeing anything beyond you saying some time back that you thought you wouldn't be have a panel chose the 12 shots. But I very well may have missed something.

So after going through all of the submissions, I realized that we had exactly 13 people submit photos this time around - which is fantastic, because it means that everyone who submitted will get published (12 months and 1 cover).
All that remains is choosing which photos will get submitted, so I am going to have a poll, from October 23 to October 27 (so as to not conflict with the monthly contest). I will post a link on a thread here in the photography forum to an external poll - so that we can get through all of the photos relatively quickly, and with very little poll fatigue.
Please let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions/comments with this idea.

If this is supposed to be a fundraiser, shouldn't it be the best 13 pictures period? I have no problem with my submission being cut if someone else submitted two (or more) that were better than mine was.
(Not that I'm not tickled pink at being included, regardless...)

is that it is important to be as inclusive as possible in these cases. We have so many talented photographers, that I want to make sure that as many are represented as possible. Last year, when I handled submissions differently, we had many more photographers submitting, so I was glad to have a 1 photo per photographer rule. Now, even with fewer photographs submitted in general, I still want to have the rule stand - if only because I feel it is important to not change rules midstream (and yes, I know I am changing the selection process, but I feel it is a good change not a detrimental one). In the future, we will review these guidelines and change them where it makes sense to change them, but for now, I will keep the process as it is.
Thanks so much for your input! I'm trying to, as much as possible, keep everyone's ideas in mind and make sure everyone is comfortable with the process.

I just emailed everyone copy of the photo which won (to the email you submitted from). Please send an email back to me as soon as possible letting me know it's fine or alerting me to any issues. I'll be sending the images to Skinner tomorrow afternoon/evening.

on an interesting side note: the blind voting made the votes much, much closer - in a few cases the winning photo won by one vote. On average, each poll got about 150 votes, for those who want to know.
