Company that will scan a box of photos to CD
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 02:19 PM by madmax
I've heard of a company that will scan 1000 photos to cd. One mails it to them and they return the photos and a CD. I 've googled and can't find it and can't locate the magazine that had the url for this service. Anyone?

I have too many photos to scan. A lifetime worth that are in shoe boxes that were taken before digital cameras. Has anyone heard of this? Any opinions?

The cost was 49.95 for 1000 photos.

1. That would be a great price,
and I sure would do it. I've got thousands of my dad's old slides that I would absolutely love to digitize.

2. I'm still looking for the article.
I think they offered that service too. Slides to a cd.

I couldn't possibly scan that many pics. They also fix damaged photos. Now if I could only find that dang article LOL

4. Thank you very, very much, MadMax.
Now I just need to find the time to sort through the slides. Lucky for me, most of them are catalogued.

8. Some more info about Costco's service
I started this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x47229

But there seems to be more action here, so this is where I'll continue. :)

I just dropped off a couple more bunches of negatives for Costco to scan for me -- they charge $2.99 per 40, so that comes to $74.75 per 1000 for comparison to the service madmax describes.

I prefer to have the negatives scanned, because all to often I have discovered photos that I thought I had messed up in the capturing stage (cutting off pieces I wanted in the frame, for example) were not made at all -- the processing center had just made a stupid cropping decision on the print. That and the fact that I have moved around a lot, and my prints have taken a beating.

They do all kinds of conversion to digital, including Super8, but I don't know their pricing on any of that.

And, no, I'm not being paid by Costco. ;)
