1. "Yee-Haw" What a trip ! I live in a smallish East Coast Town, but
can't imagine this is an ordinary achievement.
Bet he's still celebrating in some honky tonk out West.

12. Think you'll get the same response that I do
to my Iditarod photos? I have to don 50 pounds of flame-retardant suit every year before I post a single doggie picture.

Speaking of, did any of you watch The Toughest Race on Earth on Discovery Channel? We loved it, but I'm sure it would have sent certain DUers, who shall remain nameless, right over the edge.

13. Isn't that a shame?
Such beautiful dogs, and doing what they love!

I would love to see your photos.

here (2007 race) - http://www.northernvisions.smugmug.com/gallery/2562796_r4gkb#134838653_DrBZr and here (2008 race) - http://northernvisions.smugmug.com/gallery/4505567_7BzzX#265220325_Fgvow

This coming March we're going out to Nome for the finish of the race, the first time I've been out on the West Coast, even though I've lived here since 1975. We're so looking forward to it, and I'm going to post lots of pictures, whether PETA likes it or not. :)

17. Great shots! Nice behind the scenes peek.
And such wonderful dogs! Thanks so much for sharing those!

And in fairness, you know, PETA doesn't really like anything... ;)

18. Great shots!
Puppies!
I've never had a sled dog but I did have a herder (border collie) so I know that look of concentration and rapturous joy on a dogs face while it does its job. Love em, you really caught the dogs and their people.

Post away I say and people who don't understand can get upset if they chose to. Frankly, a lot of them will just find something else to get worked up about if it's not this.

19. WOW! Thanks for those links.
I had seen an early draft (incomplete and before captioning) when you first began posting your Iditerod pix, but seeing the larger set with the info was wonderful. Had no idea that people were coming from France and Belgium and such to participate (not "compete" but "participate"), and your captions made it clear that just being/doing was the main motivation.

I'm a dog lover and a great fan of PETA (they remind us of the realities we would rather not face), but those outliers (even PETA has some) who see this as somehow cruel or oppressive just need to go through these galleries and get asked the question: "Happy dog or miserable dog?" And every time they get it wrong, well, I can think of some aversive stimuli, but maybe just make them start again and keep them secluded until they get it.

21. I helped a friend start training her dogs.
They were puppies still (~1yo) so we just put the harnesses on and let them run around. They loved it. Especially when one of us would grab the harness and run behind them. They'd take off as fast as they could, with us struggling to keep up. The dogs always won. They though it was the greatest game ever.

It's a shame you get flamed for posting those pictures.

9. The popcorn suggests I am not understanding this. But I don't know who to ask.
I am only now noticing the ropes, too. Time for a trip to Wyoming and big sky country, eh?
Oh well.

10. It's from a rodeo
Rodeo livestock are among the best cared-for livestock on the planet. This is an example of "damning with faint praise."

This calf, for example, was just chased out of a chute by a guy on horseback, who then roped it, slid off his horse, ran down the rope and tied the calf's legs together. It's more than a little disturbing for the calf, although it does get up and trot away unamused afterward.

For me, my favorite part of the photo is the fellow's lack of physical fitness. But I am a cynical bastard. :D

for gently explaining what I had no life experience to know.
I owe you one, if ever the time and oppportunity comes to reciprocate.

22. I'm undecided on rodeos.

I had a rather unpleasant experience at a rodeo. Having known real cowboys and ranchers though, I can appreciate the skill involved.

4. Nope. He is with in
the guidelines and adorable.
Course you now gave me an idea for an entry. Might turn it into the battle of the babies 1st birthdays though and don't want to do that. Maybe the contest will fill up fast and I can sit it out like I was going to.

28. Hey, thanks...
Just saw this post...my best friend flew down to Guadalajara to visit me for Thanksgiving and I have been rather busy playing tour guide. Beats doing research :)

I had a fun time in Patzcuaro, it was really neat.

23. If anyone is having trouble with photo bucket or needs resizing help, I can
let them use some space on my .Mac account and I will resize their image for them if requested. I would then IM the link to them or you.

24. I put some shots on my Flickr account and used that.
It seems to give a smaller result but can be better than nothing.
Photobucket is a mess today. What's the matter with them?

26. About PhotoBucket,
they've changed their interface somewhat within the last week or so, but I'm not having any problems with it this morning. If you click on the picture you want, all that info appears on the right-hand side of the page. Then you can copy and paste just like before.

27. Thanks, I'll poke at it again.
I was trying to post some Thankgiving shots at the lounge. It drove me so crazy I broke my mouse (don't ask) and now I have to buy another one. :-( The mouse is limping and the scroll button is very stiff.
I didn't think to look anywhere but under the photo, as usual.

30. Paging Miss Honeychurch!
What do you shoot with, if I may ask? Your submission (and other shots) has a 1960s 120 mm look about it and I'm curious.

thanks

31. I have a Canon Rebel XTi now
but that pic was shot with a analog Canon SLR (EOS 300). Maybe that explains it.

That is the first someone tells me something like that.
Guess, sometimes it is just the lightening.

32. Interesting
Don't throw away that EOS. Or maybe it's the brand of film you use, but your colors with that often have a unique look. I didn't look into the submission thread until after I saw your pic in the GD polls; had a feeling it would be yours.
