I need some help with a digital video camera

I am buying one for my wife for christmas.

Critera:

Small and Light
Budget: 400 to 600 dollars
Ease of use. She is not "camera" literate
High quality video. For me :evilgrin:

1. In that price range, here's what I'd go for...

...the Canon HV30.

Can shoot either standard or high-definition on regular miniDV tapes. Fully-automated enough that a non-techie user can point and shoot and play the results back on your TV just fine; but with enough quality and features that, with a little effort (yours, not your wife's), you could even shoot a feature film with it.
