Poll question: Help me pick my flower picture!
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 12:56 PM by mutley_r_us
Here are five of my favorite choices for the contest. But, being a libra, I can't narrow it down more than this on my own. I might even go on another flower hunt if there's time. I don't know the names of any of these, so if you know them, let me know!

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

Option 4

Option 5

edit: I forgot to crop one of the pictures.

1. All beautiful, but I picked 3 because I like daisies...
I'm a Libra, too ... the way I got around the decision-making thing (a problem for me, as well) is I stopped taking flower pictures when I got one I liked. I just stopped. That way I don't get confused with too many choices.

2. I can't stop.
I've been on four flower hunts and I will probably go out again tomorrow. Sigh. Maybe I should start working on Aged Objects. I've been eyeing this old boxcar in the trainyard behind my job that's all rusty and cool looking...

3. Seems to be a clear concensus so far

I went with #5 because I liked how the different colored flower tings' seem to be erupting (escaping?) from the green stuff.

Another Libra here. Is that why I can't decide? I.Did.Not.Know.That.
:hi:

4. HaHa!
Yes, that is one of the defining characteristics of the Libra: Indecision. This is why one of our symbols is the weights and measures.

I've been leaning towards four or five myself. Or maybe two. But then again, one is a bit "different" than what most people have been posting, and three just seems very pretty to me... see my dilemma?

6. Anyone know what the flower in the fourth and fifth
photos is? My daughter took a picture of it (or something very similar) last spring and I haven't been able to identify it:

7. No sooner do I ask....
than I find the answer: Lantana.

Darn. Been searching off and on (mostly off) for the name of that flower for a year.

10. Yeah, thanks!
I like those two. They're kind of funky looking.

8. I had to pick 5.
The contrasting colors on the same bud/cluster stopped me dead in my tracks. :hi:

12. I picked number 3 because it's clear and it's good layout.
I'm concerned about the people who picked number 1. First of all it's blurry and 2nd of all even though it's a nice tree, I don't spot anything remarkable about the picture.

Now there's nothing wrong with the pic, it's just you have much nicer ones following it.

I notice nobody commented on their choice for #1 which leads me to believe they picked it hoping you would choose it and lose.

Anybody want to defend their choice for #1?

15. You think so about number one?
It was one of the first pictures I took with the camera. I thought I'd throw it in there because it's different from what a lot of people are posting.

I don't care too much about winning. So many people here are much better than I am. I just think it will be fun to enter.

16. I'm not dissing number 1, it's just that compared to the other 3
it just doesn't stand out to me. Where as #3 is flat out a great pic.

17. I was thinking about what you said yesterday
about people picking number 1 because it is the worst of the group, and I just want to tell anyone who did that that you are really fucked up. Here I am, very new to the photo group, and this is my first time participating in this contest, and this is the way you people welcome me? How very democratic of you! :eyes:

Thank you superconnected for your honesty. It's people like you who make DU a good place to be.

18. I voted on #1
it is different from the others and I really liked it.

I really don't think ANYBODY here votes with the intention that his/her picture wins compared to the posted ones in this thread. The flower contest is becoming a very tough contest because there are too many different ways to take a picture of flowers. It is already tough for the contesters to decide which picture to choose for the contest. So if people don't give comments on how they vote I wouldn't read too much into it.

19. Well
Its cool if you picked number 1 for true reasons. If thats the case, I'm not talking about you. Thank you as well for your honesty. But if superconnected is right, even about just one person, then thats just really fucked up.

22. Well, I didn't vote in the poll...
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:42 PM by regnaD kciN
...and, if I had, I wouldn't have picked the first (I would have chosen number four), but I doubt that anyone would be trying to sabotage you. Personally, I suspect the flag at half-staff was what made people like the photo -- it may have seemed to carry a political message.

I posted a similar "help me pick my entry" thread last week, and, while the responses were all over the map, none of them seemed motivated by ill intentions. And I would see no reason why you would be the recipient of malicious treatment when many others here have posed similar questions and gotten sincere feedback since I've been on this forum.

There's been enough suspicion on this forum ever since last month's permission-to-reproduce fiasco. I'd hate to see things devolve further, with people getting paranoid and accusing others of trying to undermine them. That sort of atmosphere would be enough to make me leave altogether.

25. That's Why I Voted For #1
It was just a gut thing... looking at all the pictures as a whole, I might vote differently today... but at the time I voted, that kind of struck me as a very American picture... the flag... apple tree...

23. Same here...
And I think the last thing this forum needs is another outbreak of suspicion and ill-will, especially after last month.

24. I hope not.
I really hope not. But I figured that picture wasn't that great. I put it in there because it was different and I wanted to see if people might respond to different. But IF anyone voted for that pic to undermine me, shame on you. Its not like I have a chance of winning anyway.

Did you put on a purple filter in post or is it natural?
