Pet/Animal Pics
Maybe a place for us to post our favorite pet shots?

Here's mine

1. I just knew someone would do this...
Another proud pet owner, I see.

These were taken shortly after I first got my digital camera, so nothing too fancy here.

But this my little Boston Terrier, Joy. (Actually my mom's, but Joy shares us.)

I told her to clean her room, but she just wouldn't listen to me...

A nicer one she did for her momma...

This one could have been good but, once again, I had just gotten my camera, and hadn't leaned how to focus yet...
Baby's got blue eyes it seems...another thing I need to work out.

It was a fun picture to get!

I love your photo below of your dog and I think the composition is great. The edge of the sidewalk, grass, and leaves add great texture. And your dog is cute, too! :D

12. As I've said before,
he's the single most photogenic dog I've ever seen. The friend who really encouraged me to get into photography had another one who was good -- the dog was a black lab, though, and difficult to get the lighting right. Max is too easy!

8. Here's one of the better ones I've taken of Max ...
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 10:17 PM by Philostopher
It's the one my avatar image was cropped from.

I put the other really good one in an earlier thread, it was a color shot I did on the digital camera; this is an analog black and white shot from last summer.

I have others, of the cats, but he's the most photogenic animal I've ever seen; some of the cats may show up later:

I could have cropped it, but to take out what doesn't need to be there puts him off-center in the shot, so I left the grass on the left side.

Funny thing -- this was the last shot on the roll, and when it was developed, the developer managed to get something black all over the print. I used Microsoft Image Composer to go in and take all the splotches out, surprisingly it worked!

24. Do you free-feed her now?
Because I've had to resort to measuring food for two of mine. I feed them small amounts several times a day. The vet suggested I pay attention to how much they ate in the course of a day, then start from there and cut it down a bit every several days. I got my two behemoths down from 18 pounds each to below 15 (one is closer to 14), which the vet seems to accept.

Her advice was to cut back on how much they were given until they started losing weight (we have a scale here, since we have four of them, two with weight problems, we feel like we have to keep track of it more often than once a year at the vet!), then feed them that amount until they got thinner. It sounds simple, but you probably know what a pain in the butt a hungry cat can be!

If she plays, play with her regularly -- especially if she's the only cat in the household. More exercise will burn off more calories for them, just like it does for us.

I have four cats, and have found that if I reduce the food too much, the bigger cats start bullying the smaller ones -- so they get more food than I intend to give them, the smaller ones get less, and everybody's messed up.

25. We did the same with our dogs.
One was overweight with a thyroid problem, one needed to lose because she had had ACL surgery and the weight wasn't doing her any good and the other two were for preventative reasons. I just followed the guide on the back of the dogfood bag about how much they should be getting to maintain or to lose. We started measuring and feeding twice a day and the weight started coming off. They're all doing great!

26. SHe get's 1/4 cup at 7am...
and another 1/4 at 9pm. The vet told me to. She made it sound like it was my fault. Hell, I didn't know! I feed her weight control food (dry), with s treat after I get home from work.

Toys just lay there collecting dust, and she gets quickly bored when I try to play, and then she bites, which pisses me off, because it's always the feet. :grr: I scream and she looks at me like "What's your problem?"

28. Yeah, I got the 'stinkeye' from the vet too, I remember that one.
You could tell he was too tubby, though:

Other than cutting back the food, I really can't offer any advice -- this is what Gord looks like now:

He's still probably lumpier than he should be, but the vet doesn't hassle me over the big cats if they're under fifteen pounds. When you're wrangling four of them, and they're in otherwise good health, it's very difficult to change their diet much. We did put in a run for the cats off one of our downstairs windows, which seems to help him -- he gets more exercise now than he used to.

34. I had a pudge once
The vet suggested canned greean beans. Lots of fiber, few calories. She love them and lost weight... then I had to give the other cat green beans, too. They both scarfed them down as fast as they could so they could nudge the other cat out of the way and get a secon dish of green beans. By the way, this is in addition to one serving of regular cat food.

(as usual) We need more dogs!

This is my favorite picture of my dear departed Rocky. I had to put him down about a year ago at the age of (almost) 18. Still miss him terribly.

This is Boris & Natasha (Boris is standing). I adopted them 6 weeks after Rocky left me. They kept me from losing my sanity with grief.

46. Two of my favorite models

Both are residents at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center at Laredo Community College. I've been photographing Lucky since he was a kitten, and he has to have some lap and a long purr before we can get down to photography. He especially likes to get up on my shoulders, grab mouthfuls of hair, and pull. Rachel likes bright, shiny things; the first time I worked with her, she went straight for the lens on the camera, and I had to get the cap back on it before I could play with her a bit and then have a friend distract her while I shot. (The object of interest behind that stump is my friend's watch, not a nice, juicy grub.)

it was my first dog. She looked a lot like yours only she was not a mini and was a little browner. The trick with doxies is you really gotta watch their weight so they don't get a draggy stomach. Mine never got fat but she still had to have back surgery later in life, mainly from doing that "sit up and beg" thing they do.

Thanks for sharing. He's a cutie!

53. Love this leaf photo of my kitty Greenlee:

My friend Judy, a garden writer, has a book out called "Consider the Leaf." I sent this photo to Judy and told her it looks like Greenlee is "considering the leaf." Photo was taken in my garden in early October of last year. I love the colors of the leaves; their shapes and the depth of the leaves that this photo conveys.

Here's a photo of my Miss Baby Boo that I had such fun taking. The background is that we were playing "chase." In "chase," the kitty is so much faster than I am that they have time to find an interesting hiding space. I had the toughest time finding Ms. Baby Boo and then I walked into my bathroom:
