I need some HELP!
I'm finally going to break down and buy a nice camera.
Does anyone have any experience with this camera.
Pros? Cons? Better purchase somewhere else?
Thanks in advance for your help.

1. I have the Nikon D80.
And, I am in love with it.

I started looking at the D40, but ended up on the D80 for a few reasons. More megapixels, more versatility, easy navigating and only a couple hundred dollars more. I recommend Nikon's camera, without hesitation.

3. The Nikon d40/d60 line
Edited on Mon Feb-02-09 10:27 PM by ManiacJoe
is a good starter system but with a few catches.

- The d40/d60 cameras have no internal focus motor so that you are limited to using AFS lenses that have the motor in the lens, unless you are willing to do manual focus which is not easy with these low-end cameras. For many folks this is not a limitation that bothers them due to more and more lenses being AFS.

- The d40/d60 line is easy to outgrow depending on your desire to grow your hobby.

If you are serious about photography, starting at the d90 would not be a bad choice if you can swing the price difference.

Some food for thought:

As for me, I shoot the Nikon d200 and will upgrade to the d400 when it comes out.

4. i have the D100 and love it
It's the same 6.1 megapixel as the D40. 6.1 means you can get an 8 x 10 at 300dpi, which is quite adequate for most people. But you might want to look at used D100s for about the same price.

Check out bhphotovideo.com
or keh.com

I've bought from both of them and the are both reliable in their descriptions and their products.

5. I have a Sony A100 and really like it..
Ten megapixels and almost any Minolta Maxxum AF lens from the last few decades will work on it, gives you a large number of high quality used lenses to choose from at quite reasonable prices.

Optical image stabilization is built into the camera, not the lenses and works with almost all AF lenses that would fit a Maxxum 35mm SLR. I think of OIS as a "virtual tripod", it really opens up shooting opportunities that you would not have otherwise, having it built into the camera is a big plus.

Used A100s can be found on ebay for around $300 on up, depending on accessories.

I've had Nikons too and really like them as well though.

7. Thank you all for your input
I think I might go with a little bit better camera as suggested--but will have to save a few more bucks!
Thanks so much....back to the drawing board.
