Fire downtown
We woke up last Friday to news that a fire had broken out on 6th Street in downtown Austin. If you don't know, 6th Street is the rather infamous area of Austin where a lot of clubs and bars are located. I also live nearby.

So when I heard the news I jumped up, grabbed my camera, and went out for some shots. But by that time the fire was out and all that was left to photograph were firemen, basically. So here are a few:

1. Nice shots
I like the fact that the overcast (or early morning) makes the reds and yellows of the fire crew pop.

2. Great action shots
Kind of a tossup as to which one to pick. I like the one of the guy at the hydrant, but he doesn't have anything red on.

I also kind of like the right angle of the ladder and the guy's arm in another picture.

Really, I like them all.

What caused the fire?

4. Last I heard
they suspected a smoldering cigarette accidentally left on something flammable.

3. Cool shots.
I didn't realize you lived near 6th Street. What a great location.

5. We like it!
Not so much for 6th Street itself, since we're not big club-goers (although we do like the piano bars) but just in general we find being downtown is very convenient. My wife works downtown, so she walks every day; my job is just a few miles away, so no long commute (and sometimes I ride my bike). And we like being around so many places we can walk to, or ride the bus or the "Dillo" -- which are streetcars.

And we like living in a condo building. It's our own little community, and people seem to interact much more than we used to do out in the 'burbs. You tend to see your neighbors much more often. I think it's a nice change.
