This was my favorite location to visit in Kyoto, for lots of reasons. There were not that many people there for one thing, because it is relatively less popular and we went early in the morning.
Too bad the trees cover most of it here--
This would have made a pretty good "door" entry.
Or maybe this
Okay, I am now going to order incense sticks because they were burning them here and I am hooked.
Tired of temple stuff? No worries. There is a working aqueduct from the 19th century right there. It supplies all of Kyoto with water, and I LOVE AQUEDUCTS!
Here is the canal where the water goes--
Back behind the aqueduct is a trail leading to a cemetery, which is fenced.
All over Japan there are these shrines for the souls of miscarried babies and stillborn babies, and they always dress the figures.
The trail leads further up into the hills, and there are these cool little shrines along the way. It is a spiritual trail, of sorts, and we saw a Buddhist getting exercise and bowing at the shrines. These are built into a hill.
That was a pretty solitary attraction. Now don't ask about the crowds at the Imperial Palace!
LOL, this thing seemed to be a big deal so I snapped a picture of it, not bothering to fight my way to the front!
