3. thanks. Sorry about the weird subject line. The auto complete
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 11:04 PM by alfredo
filled it in with the subject from another post.

Where was your picture taken. It's lovely.

That window was to a long closed antique store in Millersburg Ky. During my lunch break at the Post Office, I would walk through town snapping pictures.

This was above the shot, out of the frame.

Love that owl.

4. Thanks for clarifying the subject line
I thought it was a little strange, but I loved the photo. Mine was taken at one of my client's property. Nice little pond with lilies, ducks, Canada geese... you name it. I've taken a lot of photos and done some paintings there. The entire property is wonderful. He's planted it to terraced vineyards and about 1000 olive trees. Lots of photographic possibilites.

5. I should check out the vineyards in this area to see
the possibilities. We have a very old wine industry here in Ky. The first commercial winery in the US is nearby. It's just a few miles from the birthplace of sour mash.

This is an aging house for Woodford Reserve. I was on the way to a friend's house when I saw this building. I jumped out and snapped this image. It was a dreary Kentucky winter day.

Some day I will take the tour so I can get some interior shots.

Wine, whiskey, tobacco, and horse racing - Kentucky loves its vices.

11. Fabulous building
Interior shot would be interesting. Not much light, I bet. Time exposures. Haven't tried that yet with the D100. Grew up with a camera in my hand but have to learn a whole new technology with digital.

12. I found digital to be very easy to learn.
There really isn't much to learn if you are familiar with cameras. You just have to watch the battery, that's it. If you are going to take a lot of pictures, take a spare battery and extra memory. A full charge before going out is a good idea.

13. The problem I'm having is overcoming all the automatic stuff
I have to relearn (using other techniques) how to control depth of field or shutter speed if I want to deliberately blur a photo. Etc. Lots of good stuff on them, but I really have to go back to the manual if I want to do something other than sharp, clear, everything-in-focus photos. Which, of course, is mostly what I want. Just that sometimes a little something else is required.

14. that shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
You can turn off the auto and adjust the ISO. You also have different modes that adjust the depth of field for Macro, portrait, or landscape. As they say, RTFM. I am bad when it comes to the manuals. I only refer to them when I break something.

This was scanned in from a print (and I didn't do a very good job) but the actual photo is perfectly crisp.

10. That reminds me
I have a wonderful shot of an arched bridge over a small river in Scotland. God only know where it is. I'll have to do some digging.

8. Reflections fascinate me also
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 07:48 PM by Malva Zebrina
I was camping in the White Mountain National forest and got up at 5am to trek down to the water for a couple of these reflections. I am not sure if this was in Maine or New Hampsire, as both share in the forest.

Reflection of the Autumn color

Reflection in the Basin, White Mountain National Forest--not sure if this is in Maine or New Hampshire--ugh, dark areas in the upper corners is the result of the wide angle lens. I suppose I could photoshop that out.

More of the Basin

15. Here's a fun one from Mendocino County, CA
This was taken last Labor Day weekend, way back in the sticks near a place called Gualala. I must have taken 20 or more shots on this river. It was a great day...

17. Hidden Lake, Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Colorado
Early one morning in August 2003. I've always been disappointed with this picture, the real thing was much more beautiful. But I offer it up for "reflection" none-the-less. (Boo! Bad pun!)

21. Lake in Sonoma County California......
I love this shot. I took it with a beat-up little 1.3 megapixel Olympus that someone gave me. The photo looks like a painting to me. It is un-edited except for a little burn tool to tone down the blown-out sky reflection at the lower right.
