The reason we have trouble with our "yard" photos, I think, is that it's personal.

The reason we have trouble with our "yard" photos, I think, is that it's personal.
Which is of course why they are going to be interesting.

I am stumped, and too close to all of these, be it my visiting mother in the swing, or my beloved dog that died for no discernible reason, or the FIRST time I got a shot of a bird, one blue and then one red, same day. Also there is the squirrel in chameleon pose, and my funky porch.

So - help me out - please.

I am thinking 2, 5, or 6 are perhaps the most stunning/dramatic, eyecatching to me anyway

Yes, I know what you mean about this one. I LOVE MY BACKYARD!!!!

on edit.... I do so love your dog :)

2. 4 and 6
I like the quirkiness of the squirrel on that funky feeder (and you know how GD loves cute furry critters). #6 has lots of interesting stuff to look at and explore, and shows a lot of personality. Your mother looks lovely too.

I'm struggling with this contest, but my problem is the opposite of yours. I'm having trouble finding something personal to call "my yard" and will probably have to go with a very loose interpretation or something completely off the wall.

4. The dog
They're all great, but that picture of the dog just screams backyard to me. The gate, the pots, trees, and then that sweet doggie face. I think it's a great shot. The rest are great too, you know that. But that doggie has the "awww" factor along with really unique composition in the photo itself. Sorry for your loss, btw.

6. You forgot to tell me which area of interest appeals to you of my shots..
And if you go Macro, I won't know much about your yard.
I liked Mz Pip's photos about how to approach the subject.
My yard is so full of stuff I could shoot in it all day, it's because I work from home and I'm here all the time so it's my playground.

:)

7. I live in a town house. Not much yard. You have a good eye for composition
and color. Your Arches images were inventive. The one with your daughter made the image more interesting, it gave a sense of scale.

My mind is in a whir right now. I just got back from the camera store where I bought a new Canon G10. It came down to weight.

So I'm a bit distracted.

The squirrel in the yardbird is composed so well. The tines of the pitchfork echo the tail.

The porch says a lot about you. That is a porch of a well educated person.

8. Yeah, congrats on your camera. You must be excited.
Thanks for your kind words, it's not my daughter it's a stranger, and my porch looks like the porch of a nutcase who has fun living.
That's me, most of the time.
It has a hot tub and more stuff you can't see. I love my porch, and would like to enter a photo of it, but I can't get one that feels just right, yet.
Let us know when you post the first photo with the Canon G10.

10. You have a wonderful yard
My favorite is the dog. Maybe play around with the cropping and crop out about an inch on the left and a half in on the right.

The one with you mom is terrific, too. And the squirrel in the feeder. But I like the dog the best.
