In a cathedral
Last weekend I was in Limburg, an old town with a beautiful cathedral. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limburg_an_der_Lahn#Buildings I took pictures IN the cathedral I wanna show here. All pictures were taken with the mode "A-Depth" and without flash. Please tell me what you think.

The cathedral from the outside

I know you have an eye for detail, so you praise means a lot to me.

3. What a beautiful place!
Catherdrals always amaze me as they are feats of engineering wonder, even when built today. To imagine that they could build them like that so many centuries ago is mind boggling, and that they still stand is amazing! Especially when you consider the fact that now that there is heavy equipment to make it easier, no one seems to be able to build anything that lasts. Sigh. I think this makes me want to read Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth again.

:D

8. Thank you hippywife
:D

I have to admit I never read "Pillars of the Earth". But I am happy my pictures reminded you of the book.
I agree, it is amazing how they built so many centuries ago. And those old buildings are so much more beautiful than our new ones. Most times at least.

10. Speaking of books LOL -
That one just simply got to me. And I read the sequel, "World without End", too.
I have great respect for the builders of cathedrals. I'm happy MissH took these and shared them.

12. I just read that a few months back.

That's part of what makes me want to read Pillars again. I read it way, way back when it was first released in paperback nearly twenty years ago, so my memory of the details is like nil. I don't remember it being quite as readable as World Without End, tho.

4. It makes me home sick. How fabulous. Usually I don't so much
like vertical photos, but these guys move. I like them all, but especially the last one. Highly unusual looking exterior. The first 4 and the 6th totally rock.
Is this the Limburg with the Stink-cheese? I used to bring the cheese through customs in a diaper bag. Yes I did.

Yes, it is the Limburg with the Stinkekäse :D

Limburg is a beautiful old town with a beautiful cathedral. I liked the light in the cathedral. And I was happy that I was able to take pictures :)

11. Your sixth picture?
Taken from the choir loft? I'm assuming . . . anyway, quite an interesting illusion as I was scrolling down with my mouse - watching the frame get bigger!

And the one below it? The people in the fresco and then the people below it? What a catch!

Thanks for posting, these are great!

13. What a lovely cathedral
I miss buildings with actual architecture and details, not just concrete blocks with windows stuck in. That is a beautiful old building and your pictures definitely delight. The first one looks like an Escher drawing with arches leading off in all directions and I love one looking down from the gallery.

15. Well, if I could type faster and more accurately I would say more,
but these are all marvelous examples of the use of echos/symmetry as well as using lighting to direct the eye.

Look at at how upper right resembles lower left in #1. Look at the contrast echo in #3. Look at the lighting in #4 and #5. Look at the foreground/background echo in #7 and the off-balanced weight in the last two. There is a lot that can be learned by examining these photos.

16. Beautiful photos of a stunning piece of architecture.
Very nicely done!!!

If I were to ever get an opportunity shoot my own photos there they would probably end up having to forcibly remove me.

most because of the lines and angles you captured looking through arches with round columns, at more arches, the benches and railing with the lines running perpendicular. :)
