I haven't posted anything in a very long time, except for this one...
which I posted in the "need more dogs thread." It is one my daughter had me take of her and Tally. I boosted the colors because I thought it gave a bit of a 1950's Norman Rockwell feel to it...although without Rockwell's talent; but I digress... :D

Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback, negative and positive.

I just haven't been getting out, and haven't been taking any of the cameras (even the pocket ones) when I do get out...but I DID just pass my first set of field exams for my MA in History with three A's; four hours of written, and two hours of verbal interrogation, so I'm feeling much more positive.

We are leaving for Switzerland, the Jungfrau, and Interlaken at the beginning of next month for a much needed breather for both my wife and I. I should find something to shoot there...

My best regards to the Photogroup; the absolute best part of DU! :hi:

:D

1. Wonderful shot, Adsos!
It is indeed evocative of years past.

I'm not surprised that you're doing so well in school. I always enjoy reading your archeological posts.

Have fun in Europe. I look forward to photos.

3. Thanks Blue! I like the shot...
we just helped set her up at university this week, so things are kinda quiet around her...except for the sound of my tears.

Thankyou for posting!

2. My dear Adsos Letter!
I love your picture of your daughter w/Tally! It does truly have a Norman Rockwell feel, and you do too have lots of talent!

Have a ball in Interlaken! You will have lots and lots of photo opportunities there! My husband and I were there earlier this year, and we loved the scenery...

We got up into the Alps and the photo opps are incredible!

I'm looking forward to seeing your pics!

4. Thanks Peggy! I liked the feel of the shot...
and I can't wait to get to St. Moritz. We have a friend we met on a trip to Romania who is doing her third year of MD residency in St. Moritz, and she has promised us a tour of all the best sights! Plus...a place to stay... :D

5. Good to see you here! I like what you've done with this shot.
Very Good Housekeeping meets the Saturday Evening Post!

Congrats on the exams and hope you have a great trip. Have to share a silly story. When I was 18 I spent a summer in Switzerland. One afternoon I was overindulging in frites and lager on an Interlaken resto patio. Gradually it dawned on everyone in the place that the people at the table behind me were speaking English, VERY LOUD ENGLISH. I turned around to see that it was George Kennedy the actor, with what I assumed was his wife and two friends. Let's just say their deportment put the "Ugly" in the phrase "Ugly American". One of the men at the table spied a waiter, snapped his fingers twice and shouted, "Waiter, s'il vous plait some ice, huh?" At that point, I decided to settle my tab and leave.

10. Thanks Jeff! It was nice to be able to drop in with something.
I wonder if George Kennedy was there filming "The Eiger Sanction?" Anyway; yeah, accidental faux-pas are one thing, intentional arrogance/rudeness is another. :(

When I was stationed in germany in the early 1970's I found that most people were more than happy to befriend me if I simply demonstrated the simple courtesy I would want shown to me.

11. Hi blueraven, and thanks!
Yup, just boosted the saturation and tinkered with the values a bit.

Thanks for the good wishes; I have to take some reading with me for the next field exam, but doing so in that setting should ease the pain somewhat. :D

7. Love it!
Very nostalgic and evocative of days gone by. In addition to the color it's got all the triggers - the checked apron, the dog, actual batter. Makes me want to make cupcakes.

Enjoy Switzerland, and take lots of pictures! :hi:

12. Thanks Mz Pip! She has really gotten into the cupcake thing...
and the dog is always up for food! My baby is now officially gone to university, so she won't be baking any cupcakes for awhile. :( / :)

I fully intend to enjoy Switzerland! :D

And, on another note...HAS IT BEEN HOT HERE, OR WHAT!!! We live over on the Sac Valley side of "the hills" so we don't get the cooler Bay temps you folks do, but still...

15. For us who live on the bay
this weather is just perfect - hi 70s, low 80s. It nice not always wearing my fleece warmup pants and sweatshirt.

Switzerland probably won't get so hot.

8. Betty Crocker!!
I love it. The timeless hair style, the apron, well, it looks great. It could be a cookbook cover. But I bet cookbook sales are in the tank.(??? what with internet recipes).

Ohh, CONGRATS on your achievements, and have a great trip. Yes we expect more pictures then.

14. Thanks elleng! Love the clip!
That is about the way I feel now; just a bit giddy. I think it's because of the release of stress of having that block of reading/exams finished, having an "empty nest" for the first time in 28 years, and looking forward to this trip. :D
