but not to Amsterdam - but to Rotterdam.
A was a hair shy of 20 when I got on a coal freighter in Rotterdam as one of 10 passengers on a two week crossing to my new home, arriving in the pits of the docks in Norfolk.
I had 40 bucks, and a family waiting to exploit the heck out of me.

I gave a vinyl LP album of Jacques Brel songs to my son when he was 15.
He played them a gazillion times behind his closed room doors. For days, non-stop.

I still, nevertheless love Jacques Brel and his work, and so does my kid.

That canal looks very inviting. I am a rower, and my first thought (somewhat of an apology here) is, "I'd simply LOVE to row that canal".
