1. It looks like today is not the deadline?

I read through the rules and it seems like you will keep the post open until Monday noon Alaska Time? So far, four entries, and all of them are winners. good job!
So, the revised deadline is Monday, July 25--noon, Alaska time.

I advanced the deadline since the original submissions post seems to have been tombstoned along with the host. This gives everybody a chance to resubmit.

The other day I submitted my contest entry...today it's gone so I had to re-submit it. I'm confused. I also noticed other people that had entered aren't in the contest anymore...

8. Nice photos! I've begun to notice

individual "styles" are becoming recognisable. A generic theme like this is a good reminder that there are many ways to see things, each with some validity. Good work by everybody.

by any chance (one of mine below)? It looks pretty familiar, but a lot of places in Alaska could look like that.

I like them both, but I prefer the first one. But then, I also entered awater reflection shot, so maybe I'm biased!

BTW, that second photo looks familiar. More Lexington and Concord historic site?

There are some really beautiful photos there. I feel privileged to just post to that thread.
(I'm being careful elsewhere in DU so I don't get "tombstoned").

I spent some time the last two weeks trying to capture the "essence" of WATER.
Ironically, the picture I decided to post to the Contest was a complete accident that happened
while I was adjusting the settings on my camera before the 4th of July fireworks show.

Oh Well.....If you take ALOT of pictures, some of them will be good!

Every single one has conveyed to me a different sense of depth and feeling that is beyond the surface of a simple photograph.

Nothing I can find posted by amazona is anything other than civil and noncontroversial. Almost makes me afraid to hang out here. :scared:

So, what if the same situation that happened this month, with the winner gettting tombstoned, takes place again? Should there be a new term of entry that, even if you don't win, you agree to host the contest should everyone who finished ahead of you get banned? Maybe we should have some announcement for the first runner-up like beauty pagents do -- "if, for any reason, the winner cannot complete his or her responsibilities, you will assume the position of Mr. or Ms. DU Photographer!" ;-)

Sorry if you posted that, and I missed it. My plan is to keep the contest open until noon today, which is about three hours from now, and then break it out into polls as soon as I can ( by tonight, hopefully) and get them back up in the photo group to determine the top 10. Do you think a day or two would be long enough? I could get the final poll into the Lounge by Wednesday maybe.

Would that work for everyone?
