Playing around with paintshop (many pics)
One thing leads to another.

My husband decided to make an attempt to clean out his shed.

I rescued a stack of old and weathered panes of glass and a couple mirrors on their way out.

This was followed by a trip to storage to find a box of old bottles handed down from my husband's mom.

I set up the base and background out on the deck, and while waiting for the sun to shine and inspiration to strike, leaves fell. Kinda liked how they looked, so left them.

When it was 'time', I pulled a few bottles from the box, and took some pictures.

here's one:

Another I liked, even though it could use a little more space on the bottom:
histogram equalized and sharpened in paintshop:

Using that one, I went a little post-processing crazy with effects:

charcoal

aged newspaper

chrome

sepia

infrared

time machine - 1860

kaleidoscope

Today, in an ongoing (and futile) attempt at organizing the pics on my computer, I 'found' these.
Taking a break from the tedium, thought I'd share.

Rather partial to the infrared and the time machine - 1860, myself. My husband likes the kaleidoscope.
What do you think?

1. I like "chrome"
Those are great looking bottles. I like the second one a lot too.

At some point we should have a "highly processed" contest. I love fooling around with software. I'm waiting for a better computer before I get Photoshop, though.

3. thanks, Celebration.
Just came from your Nara, Japan thread. What a great way to learn about and explore 'places I'll probably never see in person'.

Noticed the second set of photos you 'played with'. As much as I enjoyed all the other photos you posted, I'm head over heels for the very last one in that set. The metal flowers against the wood knocked my socks off.

I muddle about with Corel's Paint Shop Pro. No way could I afford Photoshop and the learning curve would probably kill me even if I could.

and yep, highly processed would be fun.

10. Photoshop
Someone here said there was one version of it that was just 75 bucks at Costco. That's what I was thinking about. But my hard drive is packed and can't be expanded. I need a whole new computer.

2. Very nice.
I like that "histogram equalize" button myself. You can get some really interesting effects. Your shots look like fine art.

4. Thanks, Blue.
I have great respect for people who can do still life. Arranging those darn bottles front - back - forward - to the left - square - round - tall - short - ... and still not quite right, but I give up ... what an undertaking.

So much easier to just sit by the pond in the morning, drinking my coffee, enjoying the sunrise and waiting for the birds - Let them do the work, and catch 'em as they do.

How's your winter going? Have you ventured out or is it too cold?

6. Winter hasn't been too bad so far

We had some really cold weather last month and the snow was late, then it warmed up and melted quite a bit, but we're about where we should be now. Today it's in the 20s and cloudy.

We're in the winter cycle where if it's clear and sunny it's too cold to be out much, and when it warms up (that is, above 20 degrees or so), it's gray. I haven't even had the opportunity to be out with my new camera, but I guess I'll have to venture out for the "shot in the dark" contest unless I use something from years past.

We had a beautiful red sunrise this morning, but the view from my front porch isn't the best -- rooftops and power wires. :)

This shot was taken at 9:25 a.m. for those who are wondering when the sun comes up here now.

14. A sky filled with those colors
would be worth the wait. No matter what time of day.

9:25 sounds pretty good to me right now. It's 7 a.m. here, and I should have been out the door about 15 minutes ago.

Among others, the wood storks are returning. and I love me some wood stork.

one coming in yesterday morning:

7. You are making magnificen contributions here, and it makes me happy to see your
work. I think these are singularly beautiful, you study one and it becomes the favorite.
My least favorite is chrome, but I would have liked it had it been the only one. I really like the second one, but they're all great.

And HOW did you do the kaleidoscope shot?
It's spectacular!

8. I like them all
I've never used much post processing, but I like these. I think the "Time Machine" is my favorite.

Are those the effects names in your program?

11. They're all great ('chrome' would be my least favorite). I like the equalized, and aged
newspaper.

13. They all work, but the infrared & time machine versions are my favorites.
Of course, none of them would work if the original photo didn't work well on its own. Nice to see all the variations.

15. Those are great!
The first one is the best in my opinion. I love playing with filters, etc., and you got some great results doing so. But, it's hard to improve on perfection!

17. Great composition for starters!
I love playing with PhotoShop too but what I actually know about the program could fit into a thimble! I play around a lot with the filters. Here are a few recent shots I toyed with.
