Pelican Landing - series of 4
Just to show some December sunshine for those in inclement weather, and because birds are sorely under-represented in photos here at DU *cough* :)

"Outta the way! Comin' through!"

"Whoa... brakes - brakes!"

A pelican's beak - kinda like lowering the cowling on a jet engine for reverse thrust.

Wheeeeee

4. Thank you. It was almost like this guy wanted to to be photographed. I have
a whole series of him, he was coming in, did a turn and flew directly towards me and then over my head by not more than 10 feet. Then a wide loop by some scenery before the landing.

2. Very nice!
It reminds you of a jet engine, but it reminds me of a waterskier coming to a stop.

And, there are never too many bird pictures posted here, LOL!

5. Well, I must just miss the parts where the water skiers use their mouth as a brake :)
Thanks :hi:

6. Thanks. The birds were out in force yesterday. Ducks, mergansers, coots, various types of peeps,
and all the rest.

17. I love all the shots
They're so sharp and really capture the action well. All four shots are just beautiful. Makes me wish I was there. Where I am, we don't have much in way of interesting birds. For the most part, we're down to pigeons and crows.

19. Strangely enough (the grass is alway greener, etc.) I have the opposite problem
this is a wonderful place for birds. Regularly deemed the 'birdiest' city in the US, but there is a dearth of other wildlife. I'll sometimes go five months without seeing even a squirrel.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them.

8. Thanks. I liked how they came out. Wish it had been a little brighter so I could have
gotten a deeper DOF, but at least the pelican is sharp.

15. Thanks. Yeah, the feel of them just struck me as humorous. I have some photos
that were much more interesting, photographically, but these just shouted "pick me, pick me!"

13. Love the little kick at the end
I'm convinced he did that just for dramatic effect.

Really good pictures.

20. I think so... & the word must have gotten out, all the nearby birds seem kinda blasé
about the whole thing.
