Shot in the Dark, comments welcome
I will probably pick one of these for my Shot in the Dark unless I get out at night in the next couple of days. Thanks for looking! :-)

1. The first two are very nice, but.....
why does "Shot in the Dark" necessitate might time? I've been in caves (& other places) in the middle of the day that were pitch black.

Think about it.

2. I could go
into my closet and shut the door but the resulting photograph would be a chaotic mess of shoes, purses and scarves.

Good point, though.

7. Caves and other dark places
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 11:16 PM by HappyCynic
I actually thought about trying a shot from a cave very soon after the contest theme was announced. Unfortunately, for me to get to a suitable cave system, I would have had to drive for an hour, board a ferry for a couple hours, and drive another hour or so. It would have been an 8+ hour round trip with whatever the ferry costs plus gas. Tunnels might be good but like the caves, you would have to have suitable one near you (and a suitable subject at the site). Under bridges or other heavily shadowed areas might be good if there was enough light blockage. I think the problem with a lot of the non-cave places for most people would be a good subject to photograph.

As you imply, it's always good to think about more unusual interpretations of the theme and if you can find a suitable one, your shot could really stand out from the rest.

9. hmmm
I don't have pictures of a cave but I know where I can get pictures inside a grotto! I might do that. Honestly I hate getting out in this traffic after dark to get a night picture.

Although, I have another idea as a sort of funny entry. Hmmmm.

10. Funny entry

If you don't use the funny entry, you should post it in its own thread.

11. Here's a cave picture
I was shooting into the dark and that is all I got - dark. I kind of like the abstractness of it. I don't think it would be a good entry, though.

13. I like the looks of that, if not the feel. What is it, is it where you found the
round eyes critters?

:)

14. The raccoons
populate my back yard. There were 5 babies plus their mom who were sneaking into my laundry room at night trashing the cat bowls. One of them is still small enough to squeeze through our modified cat door.

The cave pic was taken in Hawaii. It's a shot into one of the large lava tubes that people like to hike through. :scared:

15. Thanks, and I love it
:wow:

I think the racoons are fabulous, too, in case I did not say that.

4. As much as I hate the little bastards
I have to go with number 2. You've captured all the cuteness, sneakiness, awfulness of the nasty little critters.

5. Good work. Of the three, I have to go with the first.
Looks like that was a tricky exposure, but it conveys night and still manages to hint at light. Very pretty shot.

8. December Night
I like December Night the best with Night Visitors a close second.
For the Dark in Red, is the dark band behind the bridge landscape or cloud?

12. My vote is December Night
It took me a few seconds to comprehend the Night Visitors, but then maybe it's because I have old eyes. ;)

I'm still struggling with a night shot. I've got nothing photo contest worthy yet. But I'm going out again tonight to see what I can come up with.

16. If it were up to me
I'd go with Night Visitors. But then I'm a newbie here so I can't really be counted on to guess what's going to be a winner or not.

17. Another vote for December Night
I like Dark in Red too, but the light in December Night shows more detail and I like the colours and lines of the sky better.
The raccoons are cute, but I think lightening it a bit would bring out the details out of the shadows. It's a bit hard to make out as is.
