what cracks me up is most all the articles are ad-driven drivel about digital-this and the-latest-that, but almost all the covers are film

and ignore the rest. I've noticed what you have about the film photos.
I've learned quite a bit there, though. I'm thinking about trying that cheap HDR program they were talking about. I don't want anything garish or unreal like some HDR photos, but that $20 program sounded like something I could use. Did you read that article?

I have done some, and even did it with film years ago, before it had a name
I can see it for some shots, if you fuck up and don't take things into account in camera, but it is overdone
