Better or worse?
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 03:13 PM by Adsos Letter
I haven't learned how to use the layering function in my editing software. I know the socks detract from this photo, but my efforts at getting rid of them leaves a clunky look around the top of the cat's head, and too smooth below the ear. Anyone have an opinion, or solution, for this other than wearing darker socks (or composing the shot differently)? Can layering retain detail effectively (if the detail is there to begin with, of course)?

1. I like the first one best.
They are all great, but it tells a fuller story, IMO. Beautiful cat!

2. I don't know what software you use
but Photoshop is good for selcting hair and detail.

http://www.photoshopmasking.com/ Chapter 8 has a lesson on selecting hair and Chapter 9 has some more advanced techniques.

I use CS2 and it takes a while. The new CS4 has a feature that is really fast. Maybe when I win the lottery I'll treat myself to that one.

8. Thanks for the advice, Mz Pip! I'm currently using the trial version of Lightroom2
I can't justify springing for CS4, at my skill and equipment level. I think I have yet to really understand all thet Lightroom2 can do, having used the Microsoft DigitalImagePro 10 for so long; it's a whole different interface (and old technology, to boot).

Sorry for the mixup on the "favorite shot" identification. I had your, quite wonderful, shot confused with Blue_In_CA's.

3. I think I like the homey feel of number one
But if you are looking for a more formal look, then number three.

Number two is not my fave.

5. First one too
The third one is ok too, but the fur looks oversharpened and jagged around the face.

11. Thanks, Tindalos! I'm just discovering the "brush" feature on Lightroom2
haven't really learned it yet, and am still trying to figure out other features of the program.

6. First is good. Third is also pretty good. Second one leaves me
freaked out. "Where are the feet!? Jeans should end in feet!" :P

12. LOL! Yes, Jeans should definitely end in feet! And as my eldest daughter
the doctor, likes to point out, if I don't keep my diabetes under control that is exactly how my jeans may end up looking! :D
