I have a wish for real portable editing/storage machines.
When memory cards were $100 a gig, and I needed something to store my shots on, I bought on of these.

It's fine to view shots, even RAWS when still out, but I can't crop or edit anything I have in there. Now, that memory is cheap, this thing is no longer useful other than showing people photos when no computer is around. I also have an iPhone, which has about 2,000 photography apps. Unfortunately, most of them are for taking care of the shots taken with the iPhone's rather shitty little camera. The 2" screen leaves a little to be desired for showing off my shots. The Epson viewer has both CF and SD card readers built in, but again with the lack of editing software, I can't do anything but view photos on it. I want a combination of the two. Canon and Epson both make portable 4X6 printers that are also AC/DC. I take a lot of shots of people, and when they give permission, they usually want what I just took. I'd love just to give them a shot or two right there, without having to mail it to them later.

Not to mention that when I'm done with a Wedding or trip to Moab, I come home with 50+ shots to go through. A real PIA to sit at the Mac to do for such long stretches. I'd love to be able to knock a few or most out while I'm sitting at the bar, or bored in my hotel room with nothing to do. I found that iPhoto is more than good enough for 80% of my work, and I only need Photoshop for a few I desperately want to salvage. If only I could have a portable version of that without a Macbook.

Now there's a rumor of this thing.

Apple Tablet or iSlate about to be introduced, according to rumors. It's rumored be a netbook/e-reader/ multi-media device. I hope this is what I'm finally looking for. Multi touch, like we're used to when we dealt with film & paper, not mouse clicks.

If Apple does it right, they could take over the photography storage viewer market. Offer at least a USB port, and at least a SD card slot. Make a touch version of iPhoto (or even Aperture) so that cropping/editing/printing can be done on the fly, make it RAW compatible, get Photoshop and Nikon Capture on the Slate, and we'd have a portable dark room/presentation device without having to wait 'till we get home to go through 500+ shots for the typical wedding or field project.

If someone wants a shot, we won't have to get e-mails and addresses. We'd just ask for their flash drive, hook it up and drop their favorite shots into it, or take them to my car and spit out a few 4X6s.
