FEBRUARY'S PHOTO CONTEST THEME
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 09:07 PM by Mz Pip
...is Still Life :hi:

I'm sure glad I didn't have to do a coin toss. :bounce:

So go out and be creative in your arrangements!

I'll post the timeline shortly. I will need to coordinate this with the Winter Contest.

Have at it.

Mz Pip

1. This knocks me over with a feather.
It also ended up with what I secretly hoped for. The challenge of a still life.
Signs are so every day for me.

3. I'm smiling. I would have expected
nothing less than a brand new previously unheard of theme dictate.
(did I say that right?)

4. But there was so many possibilities with signs. Both would have been fun.

5. Next month...
If there's a poll for next month's theme, I'm sure someone will suggest signs. Hopefully, there won't be a poll as nerve-wracking as this one for a while. I swear the polls for this theme were more nail-biting than most contest finals.

6. I'd like it too. If it ever stops raining, I'll go out and look for signs
that catch my fancy.

Tomorrow I'm putting another gig of RAM in my computer because the 4416X3312 slows down everything when editing.

12. I'm not trying to be obtuse
but can we have a definition of 'still life'?
Thanks! :)

13. Definition of Still Life from Wikipedia
Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subject matter, most typically a small grouping of objects. Still life photography, more so than other types of photography, such as landscape or portraiture, gives the photographer more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition.

Still life photography is a demanding art, one in which the photographers are expected to be able to form their work with a refined sense of lighting, coupled with compositional skills. The still life photographer makes pictures rather than takes them. Knowing where to look for propping and surfaces also is a required skill.

15. Argh!
I would love to play but I'm moving next weekend so between packing and unpacking I won't have enough time to devote to fiddling with backdrop and lighting to do the topic justice. :(

16. Keep the camera handy...
A group of boxes (or maybe an open box with some stuff poking out) still counts as a still life. You might find a shot when you least ezpect it.
