1. You are making
Philly look like a half way decent place to be. Great photo as were all the others. Hope you grabbed a cheese steak done right.

2. Thanks CC! I always enjoy Philly (except when the heat/humidity becomes unbearable)
I edited to add Pat's, the local rival.

And I ordered "one extra Whiz, wit"...and I LOVED it!

7. Thanks, hippywife. I "forced" myself to try cheese steaks from both joints
eating two Philly cheese steaks in a row is not recommended...delicious though they may be...

11. I couldn't make a fair comparison, because each sandwich had different cheese

I ordered American Cheese on Pat's, and warm, melted Cheeze Whiz on Geno's; onions on both. Both were excellent. :D

Between the two, I preferred the Cheeze Whiz, and it was larger. :9

4. OH that's fabulous. The first one especially.
I've heard of this rivalry, and this area looks like a perfect candidate for a shop that is called: "Best Steaks on the Block".

8. They were deadly delicious, Mira. However...
next time I won't eat one from each at the same sitting. ;)

5. These are both really good, especially the second, to my eye.
It's interesting that Philly looks to be as cluttered with wires as Toronto.

Were you tempted to order in Spanish at Geno's?:+

And now, of course, I'm dying for some cheese fries...

6. Philly is absolutely cluttered with wires; it made getting "wireless" shots impossible, at times
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 04:03 PM by Adsos Letter
And no, no temptation to that at Geno's...I have no death-wish involving getting pounded to a pulp and dumped in one of the sketchier Philly neighborhoods at midnight. ;)

And now I have a hankering for an "extra Whiz, wit..." :D

12. BOTH of those joints had a very, uh...xenophobic?...atmosphere
at Pat's you had to give your order in specific terms, with a proper Philly pronunciation, or they sent you to the back of the line til you got it right.

At Geno's they had a sign posted: "If you can read this, thank a teacher; if you can read it in English, thank a Marine!"

I really wanted to snap a picture of it, but didn't...interesting vibe. :D

13. Love both the shots.......
.........especially that twilight feel of Pat's.

BTW, these places looked really familiar to me, despite having never been there. I think I remember Anthony Bourdain taping his No Reservations food show on the Travel Channel at Geno's once.

Bottom line........good pics, good food.........good going.

14. Thanks! Bourdain might have taped there; both places are actually well known in the foodie world
that's what they tell me, anyway.
