Sometimes the best thing to do, is also the saddest thing to do
.

Mew <1990-2010>

We had to have Mewie put down this evening, and I just wanted to share one last photo of her with The Group. She was 20 years old, and had developed a very nasty carcinoma on the side of her head, and it was spreading rapidly. No treatment but pain meds possible, and I didn't want her to have to live with that. We had her sedated, then put to sleep, and she died very quickly, and without any visible pain.

Left a pretty big hole in our family's heart, though.

1. I hate losing companions. My cat lived 22 years. She was
arthritic and slow but never cranky. She got sweeter as she aged.

Jeanie. She had one white whisker.

9. She was hell on wheels. She was fiercely protective of us.

She would run out to the street to attack dogs. She shredded the nose of a Rottweiler, and did serious psychic damage to a young yellow lab. With us, the tiger in her disappeared and she would become a mass of purring fur.

You will have fond memories of your cat for years. Enjoy them.

2. My dear Adsos Letter...
Oh, what a gorgeous girl!

I love the creamy white of her fur...

She sure looks happy and content here...

Safe passage to her...

Hugs to you and to your whole family...

It is a very sad moment, but they rely on us to take care of them, and that includes releasing them from their pain...

You have done well, sweetie...

8. So sorry Adsos.

Those critters work their way into our families and into our hearts and leave a huge hole when they leave.

But what a lucky little cat she was! 20 years of love and affection with a terrific family.

Peace to little Mewie.

10. I'm so sorry, Adsos.
It's always hard to put down a beloved pet. We lost both Punkie and Jax last year so I know how you feel. Perhaps you can take some comfort in knowing that you gave her a good life for all those years.

11. That's a lot of pain. I'm sorry for it.
I've never had a cat, but my new daughter in law brought with her 21 year old Mac the geriatric cat.
I don't see him often, but I already in my own way miss him.
You are bereft and grieving and it will take time.

Every time I've lost a dog the pain is unbearable for a while.

12. What a beauty!
20 years worth of memories is a darned lot. You amd your family are in my thoughts. My kittie is getting older and I teared up at your situation knowing mine will not be far behind. Damned empathy...it can hurt!

How I adore cat lovers!!!

14. Losing a friend and companion is always heart wrenching
whether two legged or four. At least we have the option to help our four legged friends to pass peacefully and painlessly. Peace to you and your family.

15. She'll have lots of company.
Our Siamese hit 20 before he took his leave last year. He'll show the new kid the ropes.

Very sorry for your loss. :pals:

18. Sympathies.
20yo! Wow! It must have been a difficult situation, but she died surrounded by love and reference, much like cats in Ancient Egypt.

19. I'm so sorry Adsos.
It's so easy to forget when we bring these critters home and into our hearts that we are not only signing up for the cuteness, love, affection, and companionship they offer, but that we also sign up to inevitably have our hearts broken in the end. For all the broken hearts I've endured over the years, I guess I wouldn't have it any other way (especially since I can't change it) as they've brought so much goodness to my life; each passing has always brought me another special one to know and love.

It's funny, I had to laugh at myself the other day while I was showing photos of my dogs to a friend and realized I had described each one as "the dog of a lifetime". The same applies to all the cats I had the pleasure of knowing and loving.

I am sorry for the pain you are suffering but am thankful you knew and loved Mewie enough to let her go when I am sure every fiber of your being was aching beyond words. She was blessed and so are you Adsos.

Losing a beloved friend is one thing, having to put her out of her misery is a step beyond. :( And after 20 years! How lucky you were to have her for that long a time. And how brave of you to let her go.
