alfredo has mentioned stacks a few times recently.
Having been stuck with CS2 until just this week, I had no idea what he was talking about. I had read an article about getting extreme depth of field in macro photography in a magazine some time back. Once I tracked down the article and cracked open the CS4 Bible, I figured it out. This is what I came up with. Excuse the dust, please.

1. Motivates me to
buy CS4, though I think CS5 is coming out shortly. I'm impressed.

2. Since I finally broke down and made the upgrade after putting it off for so long,
I have no doubt that CS5 will be out soon. Probably next week with my luck. As for the above picture, there are 11 layers in it, each focused on a specific point of detail. The processing involved must be massive. I have a pretty fast gaming box and I had to reduce the original file sizes to 1024 x 683 so as not to swamp my RAM(4 GB of DDR3). 11 layers was probably overkill, but I was just experimenting.

3. Yeah, I know what you mean about file size
I'd been working on some new stuff on Mr Pip's laptot computer when we were on vacation and asked him to transfer the files to my computer when we got back. I had about 7 pieces, several layers in each and the folder was over 4 gigs. It took 45 minutes to transfer.

Next time I will try to remember that I will never be printing these billboard size.

4. I had PS7, but upgrading to OSX Leopard killed it. Now
I'm using GIMP.

Can't justify spending all that money on an upgrade now that I am retired.
