That's the beauty part. I surely see the rot.
Very auspicious beginning!

29. At first, I thought it was a closeup of fallen grapes
I have a vine in my back yard and very fine rye grass, so the rye grass and grapes there, match the apples and grass in your photo.

There is so much light flowing through the fruit, that it seemed impossible that they could be as large as apples.

Nice work!

3. Just pulled up the submission thread
and I'm wondering if there's any point in submitting! The two entries up so far are extraordinarily rich. These two photos could end up going neck and neck.

4. WHOA.....however one spells that
the entries are blazingly hot already.
Maybe I will not bother either (just read JeffR's comment) but really I will.

Hippywife says she does not do this to win.
I think she has a great line, but I do it to win, if at all possible.
LOL

Alfredo, the photo is phenomenal, and so is the title.
Gutsy, cerebral, different.

But then, there are the others already there....
and those to come.

:)

5. I have a recent shot I'd decided to enter.
And I will, despite knowing already it won't go anywhere with the photos already entered as competition. Having won wabi-sabi five months ago, I have to lumber out of my stupor and have another go at this. Decay is irresistible as a theme. It's not always beautiful, but when it is, it really is.

6. WOW - I wake up and find such a strong field. Each one of these could completely
walk away with the top prize.

I don't know, if you bring such beautiful presents, you might drive some folks away. Then we won't have enough photos, and I traipse over to the lounge and find new blood.

Which reminds me, Buehler, you are doing great!

9. Not much decaying going on up here this time of year.
Everything is frozen solid. :)

I'll be sitting this one out. We leave for Nome Monday, and I still have a lot of work to do on the photos I took last weekend, so I need to stay focused on the task at hand. I look forward to all of your entries. There is so much talent here ... and you're such nice people, too.

When we're out west, I'm going to try to think of every possible topic that might arise in the next few months and get a shot of it from a Nome perspective. I'm really looking forward to this trip and the change of scenery.

12. RichardD - you chose one I remember and really like.
I've been very busy in one way, and very wasteful of time in another. But I'm clearing space, and chose a canvas.
I will paint that photo of yours, and look forward to doing it. It is a solid plan.

(I hope to get there before I go for a short trip to Costa Rica, from where I will return with more stuff to ponder)

22. Watery Grave is amazing!
I can actually imagine a body formed by the orange leaves under the surface. The face, center top, is tilted slightly right and up, while the eyes look down and left. Mouth agape. Arms straight down. Large hands.

Amazing image!

Edited on Sun Mar-14-10 12:24 PM by Mz Pip
and look at it again, and you're right. It does kind of look like a body. The branches under the water sort of look like bones.

This is why I love these contests. It's always interesting to read how people other than the photographer "see" the image. We each can bring our own interpretations and aesthetic to the piece.

26. A Fragile Moment
I love these contests and this is a favorite theme of mine...everyone's photo entries are all so beautiful!
With all this amazing talent, sometimes I get nervous hitting the "post" button-but,as an artist, I hit it anyway, lol.
I saw this on my shed door one morning last fall...the light was so beautiful, so I ran in to get my camera. By the time I got back-to my dismay-the light had changed a bit, so I quickly took a few photos.
Good thing I did, because the leaf fell to the ground a short time later...

30. It reminds me
of the O Henry story, "The Last Leaf."

But, lo! after the beating rain and fierce gusts of wind that had endured through the livelong night, there yet stood out against the brick wall one ivy leaf. It was the last one on the vine. Still dark green near its stem, with its serrated edges tinted with the yellow of dissolution and decay, it hung bravely from the branch some twenty feet above the ground.

31. Old Chevy Truck
I wanted to enter something with the season. I took this picture right after discovering this contest so this is decay that's happening right now, this Spring, today. I'm new at posting photos on the web and I only have my imageshack account and still don't know how to get rid of the little color cube on the lower left.

It's a really nice shot, and I will go back and look at that little color cube I DID NOT NOTICE.

No matter how you do, enjoy the journey, and afterwards hang with us and give us a chance, we are a lot of fun, and try to teach each other stuff.

36. Death Grip
A candid shot taken along the Gale River path in the White Mountains last year. Five "knees" come out of the ground and wrap around a fallen tree. It looked to me like a hand coming out of the ground to claim a fallen one.

Every single one looks like a strong entry. I would have no idea who to vote for. There is very little difference between my very favorite shot and my least favorite shot, in the whole group. I never remember feeling that way in past contests.
