Which one is beautiful to you in spite of the decay?

1. I like the woman. That pic expands the definition of both
"decay" and "beautiful", moves it to a whole new level, makes one stop and think.

2. I voted for 2.
Was a toss up between 1 and 2.

The elderly woman reminds me of actress Ruth Gordon. However, I don't think 'decay' is a word I would use to reference the aging process. ;p

3. I KNOW - that's why I don't simply use it.
On the other hand, real is real, and the two concepts are clearly represented in this woman.

14. I did the same thing
Voted for 2 but could easily have voted for 1. The dead things aren't dead enough to see the beautiful infrastructure, so no on 3 and 4.

4. Checking, and it looks like you guys like number one.
(except it seems ItsRobert visited and left a vote for "Robb's desk"; remember how he came in at a contest and said nothing was any good, on all three preliminary threads?)

I find it fascinating that nobody likes the dead squirrel. I vacillate, but it's my personal favorite, I like the way it looks like it is melting into the side walk. I was so sad when I happened upon it a few weeks ago.

Thanks for voting guys, it looks like one vote for 4 looks.
That's interesting as well.

7. I remember that.
I think he alerted on the threads and thought they should be moved to the Lounge.

I voted for #1. The squirrel is certainly a compelling shot, but the "Beautiful" part of the theme is a bit of a stretch for me. I think it's the maggots on the fir. ;-)

prescriptions.
I HAD NO IDEA there were maggots.

There is nothing (almost nothing) as gross to me as maggots.
They gag me.

So, that one's out.

edited to hopefully make sense

5. Just one question (yes I voted for #2)
Do people nail fish to fence posts where you live?

6. I came upon this on a stroll off the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
It broke my damn reverie, to say the least. I have no idea what that was about.
thanks for voting

8. I went with #1 mostly because that's the kind of subject matter
that fascinates me. #2 might be the better photo, though.

10. Okay folks, I learned alot here.
There were many many hits in a short time, not so many votes. That tells me you care about what I might show you, and that makes me feel valued.

The not so many votes just means I'm not offering much of interest.
That's cool, it's the best I have so far.

The TWO votes from It's Richard mean that it's really just not good enough in general, because he would not, could not, show up twice.

The decaying animals are losers.

The woman, though liked and appreciated, is harmed by being looked at as "decaying".

And the building, which I remembered and just shot this pm with my pocket point and shoot has potential.

Thanks, guys.
I'm glad I did this.

11. One more vote
I peeked from work but couldn't vote until I got home. FWIW, I'm glad you're not going with the squirrel. I much prefer the building photo but I'm not sure it's quite there yet. Something about the angle is a bit funky and throws it off. I shall wait and see what else you come up with. I know it will be good.

12. I can only speak for myself
but I gave this post a lot of hits because I was really interested to see how the voting was going, both before and after I voted. Probably 15 or 20 hits throughout the day.

15. I looked at those paintings
utterly stunning, if you pardon the expression. I'm speechless how he did that.
But here is my question:
WHY?

Photos do the same thing. And life it too short to paint like that.
NO?

16. Why? Because he could. You have to see the paintings
to really "get" it. It messes with your mind.

Life is not too short for the anal retentive to delve into the minute details.

17. Thanks for the link! I love these paintings.
Hyper-realist isn't a term I was familiar with, I will be looking more into now.

18. I voted for the fish.
I really liked that on. The lightness and beauty of the beach, including the post, is a great backdrop to the gutted fish. Great shot.

21. Althought the elderly
woman is charming, I choose #4 - the fish. Call me strange, but I really like that shot.
