if there was any significance to the castle battlement type designs that seem to repeated in so many petroglyph locations? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crenellation

12. Well in the case of Hovenweep that may be true
Unlike Mesa Verde there are no cliffside dwellings. Towers built on the ends of canyons, many of their modern names ending in "castle".

10. Yeah I guess, the way the photos came out
But seeing them in person it's not that way at all. I was just overwhelmed at the thought that the people who did these have been dead for many hundreds of years. Is this their legacy?

13. I don't know how common it is internationally...
...but I'm originally from Autralia and I've seen cave hand prints (many thousands of years old and perfectly preserved)where the "artist" had sprayed a paint like substance (presumambly from his mouth) onto a hand held against the cave walls. Th resulting stencilled image is quite powerful in it's ancient-ness.
