1. I'm no expert,
but Maestro is, when it comes to birds.

You should PM him.

7. My flicker is named Spot.
He and his mate have been coming to my feeders for about three years. I call his (assumed) mate Spotina.

3. "yellow bellied northern flicker"
There you have it. Aren't they cool looking? I never remember seeing one until I snapped the pictures. Because of the behavior I knew to look in the woodpecker section of the bird book. I'm getting a bit better, but still don't consider myself good at identifying birds.

4. yep!
Great capture, Wanna Jump!
I saw one for the first time ( have seen the red marked version many times but it was my first yellow sighting) back during the Blizzards of oh ten. ( a few weeks ago) . The wetlands and woodlands here in Cape May County were so snow covered for so long ( now we are 'historically' flooded) that many birds were appearing that I had never seen...or only had a rare glimpse of. Nice to see one here!

5. interestingly, I had never seen one either
but I have heard them before, and thought they were something else

they must be shy

it is rare to put a new checkmark in my 30-year-old Petersen!
