1. Beautiful

Makes me a bit "homesick." We used to just drive around and gape when the wildflowers were good near San Antonio. There must have been some rain at the right time this year. Bluebonnets rock! These look like paintings.

Now there is something for Texas to brag about. I don't think I've ever seen such beautiful fields of wildflowers. No wonder Lady Bird had such a thing for them.

5. Not really

They preceded her. Texas has always been known for fields of bluebonnets. But her wildflower center in Austin is pretty interesting. They are huge promoters of using native landscaping, and their whole landscape is based on that. They don't believe in watering plants. So, if you are in a dry part of the country, don't plant grass that has to be watered and/or sprayed. I have to say that when I went there it hadn't rained in awhile and the plants were a bit straggly.

But I wish that trend would catch on. How much fun to show my grandson patches of clover in our yard rather than telling him he can't touch the recently sprayed lawn of a neighbor. Grrr, pet peeve of mine, though they might object to my yard as well.

6. We have flowers similar to bluebonnets here,

except they're purple lupines. I guess they're all in the same family.

I'm kind of natural gardener myself, although I do water my flowers when it's dry. I have one big bed in front of our house that is all an Alaska wildflower mix. They are really beautiful in the late summer. We've taken up so much of our already small yard with flower and vegetable gardens that it only takes about five minutes to mow the lawn. :) I won't let my husband use pesticides. I've spent hours and days digging up dandelions, but no weed 'n' feed, no way.

7. Bluebonnets are lupines. They are shorter than the ones in

CA and maybe where you live. Same beautiful deep blue, though.
