Sunday Mourning - Thoughts, please?
So, does this shot suck? First Pic I am daring to post here! Taken from a Fuji Digital Camera, no Photo Shop.

I would really love some comments. Thanks much.

1. I kind of like it
the only thing I find weird is the tree intruding from the left side.... good eye for light, and I really like the shadow of the lampshade I would probably crop the ceiling fan out too

2. That about sums it up.
I agree with the suggestion for both crops. Good job at balancing the outdoor light with the sunny wall.

6. I agree on the crops, as well,
especially that bit of tree. The lighting is very nice.

3. Welcome!
Agree with the advice, but overall it really makes me want to be there. Great time of day for light for a photo.

4. Lovely shot
The suggested cropping is good. I'm confused at the title. Does the reference to mourning have a significance of which we are not aware?

5. Good eye for composition, by the way...
I like how you put the lamp right on the horizontal "rule-of-thirds" line, with so many leading lines (the window, the base of the railing, the edge of the bed) pointing to it. If you've studied composition before, you have a good sense of how to apply it; if you've never studied it, you have a natural sense for such things.

8. Wow, no, I only have a vague idea of the "rule of thirds"
And only from talking to some people about photography in general. But thank you so much. You made my day.

11. If you have the time, do your comments apply to this shot as well?

Thanks so very much.

12. yes the dog's face is in the intersection
of the thirds grid... google rule of thirds, there will be more than you want to read there, and the shadow/light pattern point to it

7. 1) Thanks so much for all of your comments 2) Is this better?

It was taken in Boca Grande, Florida. A small barrier island off Central West Florida. To be honest, the entire island is picture postcard ready. (And I am luckily heading there on Saturday for vacation. I'm so happy!) My family owned property there until January 2008 when we had to sell due to the downturn in the economy. This was taken in the condo right before we sold it. Thus, the "mourning".

Thanks for the very kind welcome. You are all very encouraging and I really, truly appreciate it.

13. It's really beautiful.
Especially the Hopper-esque light. This crop takes out a few minor distractions and allows the scene to speak for itself. Very good.

14. It reminded me of a quote from a Douglas Adam's novel
The long dark teatime of the soul.
