Happy Vaisakhi! (dial-up warning)
A mela was held this past weekend in Little India to celebrate the Sikh holiday. They blocked off a side street and set up a stage and a PA system that would have scared Blue Cheer in their heyday. Here's some souvenirs.

Bhangra dancing:

Not a bad crowd for an afternoon threatening rain:

This live band was pretty good, though eardrums throughout the area are probably still ringing today:

The area set aside for dancing looked like an under-rehearsed Bollywood movie shoot:

View from behind the stage:

1. That dancing
Love it, especially the one in mid jump. Was the food good? For this one we do need frames that have embedded audio.

3. The music was good, but loud to the point of distortion.
I had some great pakoras and the finest samosas I've ever had, almost a religious experience with the chutneys provided.

2. Very nice...

although not as big, colorful or somewhat political as the one in NYC. Unfortunately, I got to our's just as the parade was over and they were starting the langar, filling all of Madison Sq. Park.
I'm always shy doing candids, even more so among that crowd, even though I have been dating a Sikh man off and on. I'll try again next year. I hope the weather is as good.

4. Sounds like a great venue for photography.
You're so good I'm sure you'd bring back some brilliant scenes.

It's always good to see people dancing in the streets and enjoying life.

6. In the third pic
it's kind a cool how you caught one person facing a different direction than all the others. That's what caught my eye anyhow.... :kick:
