go for a week in Los Angeles with only my 100mm macro lens? I normally walk around with the 24-70 but with the flowers out, I've been using the 100mm only for weeks. It's a great macro and gets me closer than the 24-70 when I have to stand back a distance from the flowers, it takes great portraits and a good landscape. Given I'm just going to be shuttling around my parents' neighborhood, seeing the usual stuff (so I'll be taking my usual garden shots rather than buildings) can anyone give me a reason why I might be kicking myself if I don't take the 24-70, even with a close-up lens attachment?

1. For the flowers and gardens... |

... the 100mm could easily be all that you need based on your described shooting style.
My recommendation would be to take something in the 20-50 range for indoor people shots on the off chance you need to do so.

My parents are too old to want pictures taken :-) and my mother is in a home, which doesn't allow that anyway. I'm pretty shy about taking pictures of people on the street, let alone candids indoors. I'm not anticipating anyone posing for me.
