Can anyone recommend a telephoto extension for a Nikon D100?

I would like to turn my 28 - 200 AF lens into a 400 mm. I found several for around $80, but most of the reviews said the AF was unreliable. Manual focus is not a big deal, but if it says auto focus, it should function as an auto focus.

1. Assuming you mean the 18-200mm AFS lens...

None of the Nikon teleconverters will mount that lens due to the design of the lens.

Rumor has it that the Kenco (sp?) teleconverters might work. However, even if they do, you will probably not be happy since the 2x converter will convert your slow f/5.6 lens into a super-slow f/11 lens, which would be well outside the specs for reliable auto-focus.

Edit: If your lens is a 28-200mm, (Tamron f/3.5-5.6 ?), the non-Nikon converters might mount, but you will still have the same aperture problem.
