1. That' quite a powerful statue.
I like the way you've framed it close. It maintains the sense of intimacy.

2. OH
this is so expressive. Immediately it reminds me of the sculptures of Kaethe Kollwitz. I wanted to post a link to her work, but could not find one to show the sculptures to suit me.

I would love to see a bit more on the bottom, if you have it to show.
But thank you for this very much. I am moved by it.

4. the full sculpture
I failed to get a good photo of the entire thing. I sat on the floor for a bit and admired it. The entire church was so beautiful and peaceful. I was at one time a candidate for ordination in the Methodist Church and studied at ANTS (Andover Newton Theological School) I am so saddened that we as a society cannot delight in the story of Jesus without making it a tool to repress and abuse people. But the negative of the church, it seems, is quickly consuming the positive. This church, Cathedral of Hope in Dallas, was open to the LGBT community and is one that still celebrates the goodness.

6. Thank you for showing the whole of it, and also for your words and sentiments.
The sculpture is beautiful, and I like your original photo better because it shows the two heads more clearly.

I poked about to find a specific Kollwitz sculpture I was reminded of, and had to give up. But here is an etching by her

3. I lingered a long time...
...on that first shot. I love the framing and the powerful foreground and background. Really nice job of making it your own work rather than a shot of someone else's work. Very moving.

5. I agree with the comments of others
about how you framed the shot. Made an already very powerful work even more so.

We have two Hope churches here. One is a UCC and the other us Unitarian. Both support the LGBT community. The UCC supports in more ways than just spiritually, they provide AIDS testing and food for those who can no longer work and support themselves because of the disease. Their ministry is very inspirational.

:hi:

8. Could have sworn I commented on this already
but I didn't. That shot is one of the best I've ever seen here. As soon as the right theme comes along, that's a contest winner. The framing is perfect. I'm gobsmacked.

9. thank you
the sculpture sat on a small table at the corner of a stairway and a wall with odd plaques on it. The sculpture itself was amazing and I just didn't think the background did it justice. With a bit of manipulation, I was able to use the stair rails as a great asset...

10. A very great asset.
It can be so challenging to eliminate background clutter or just plain dullness. You've got a very dynamic background here, which complements the statue by contrasting with it. This is one of those once-in-a-long-while photos that just works.

11. Wow!
The close-up of the statue is just so powerful and evocative that I'm speechless.
