Afternoon at El Mercado - San Antonio
I can't say often enough how much I enjoy living in this city. I love the colors, smells and sights and never get tired of going downtown.

1. You make me want to go back to Texas. Really.
And I did not thing that could be done. I like the sombreros a lot, they are cheerful and inviting, and my favorite is the third one with the tortilla makers hands. I like the gentle light on the arms, and the casual competence implied in the setting.

2. deep down, I love Texas. San Antonio is my adopted hometown.
I wouldn't go back to the town I grew up in for any amount of money. It was once described as the armpit of Texas..and I whole heartedly agree..lol.

3. Have only been to Fort Worth, and to Dallas,
also crossed the panhandle by car.
I have heard good things about your adopted home town.
For me, Texas spells Crawford, and reminds me of a nice but brainwashed man I know who lives a mile down the road from the ranch and keeps inviting me to show it to me.

YIKES

4. Makin' me homesick
I grew up in a time when everyone had to go to Nuevo Laredo for a Mexican Market...........and, it was actually safe back then. El Mercado is pretty authentic, but without the "meat market" odor or raw meat in Nuevo Laredo. After one of those trips, I generally turned vegetarian for a week or two.

Your pictures capture the color and frivolity, for sure.

I still have some mementos from all this-- a hand carved yoyo with my initials in it(seriously, that is somewhere), a paper mache ostrich egg sized egg, decorated with string and painted in green and peach, some random pottery, a pinata or two, etc. etc. Mexican markets can be fun. But it is not for the minimalists!
