3. Thanks, GPV!
I don't quarrel with any of the front-runners, but I'm appalled that alfredo's magnificent entry doesn't have way more votes.

4. Perhaps the B&W portrait fans are all offline tonight? :^) Honestly, I never know
how these votes are going to go. I would never lay money on our photo contests, because I'd get wiped out!

6. I hear ya.
As much as great photos usually find their audience in contests, sometimes great ones don't. Alfredo's entry seems to be the latest to fall into that conundrum.

7. one of the big problems with our contest

9. There is definitely, from what I can tell, a difference in the results of
a photo contest depending on whether it's judged by the public at large or a panel of professionals. I think those two groups of people look at the photos somewhat differently, perhaps? :)

11. of course, it is what it is
I was waiting until this one is done to make a suggestion, and I am not sure if it is technically possible within the DU framework anyway, or that anyone will agree with me, and I will still wait

13. I don't know...
I've seen more than a few (non-online) contests judged by a "professional artist," in which the winners were, hands down, the ugliest and most ridiculous entries of the whole bunch.

14. Well, that just has to be the worst, then. LOL Hubby has entered
contests of both types and that's what I had observed thus far, but perhaps he'll run into the situation you've described at some point or other.

15. Actually, I think
Every single person is looking for something different, whether they are professional or amateur.

16. Very true. I'm only speaking from my very limited experience in watching
the results of both kinds of contests. Methinks it's time I broaden that experience and get more data. :)

17. I enter to participate. If I get 1 or 100 votes, it's all the same.

18. yeah, I think it promotes photography as a hobby
Among ourselves and those that view the results. I don't get hung up about the results. Everyone wins.

19. I knew when I entered, my image might be too subtle.
I knew my image was good, but it was against some great images with a clearer interpretation of the theme.
