And here is another update about the reflections contest
Even though DU seems to have settled a bit, I am still reluctant to continue with the contest because traffic is still high and there's still a chance that the levels can change, leaving people unable to vote.

But as I've said before, the contest will eventually run, even if it takes another week or two. Considering what's going on in the world, it really is just a minor inconvienence.

However, I do propose we do some type of "Spirit of New Orleans" challenge. I know somebody brought it up in another thread, and I think it's a hell of an idea. And you know the rest of DU would love it.

I call it a challenge because of the unpredictability of the polls, but we can post them with polls. It really doesn't matter. The point is to use our creativity and photography skills to pay homage to what was a great city.

And as Blue_in_Ak mentioned (I think), the photos don't even have to be of New Orleans, considering many people probably don't have photos from there. So it can be anything that draws the mind to New Orleans.

What do you guys say?

2. I'm with it...
...and, if you want to submit a photo yourself (or just don't feel like doing two of these in a row), I'll be glad to run the challenge in your stead, since I really don't have any immediate ideas for a photo on this subject myself.

(And I like the idea of calling all these events "challenges" instead of "contests," while we're at it.)

3. I do want to submit a photo
Because I have some from my New Orleans pit stop last year. But I don't think anyone should sit this one out. I don't mind hosting it, but I also don't mind if you host it.

If you really want to do it, it's all yours. But please submit a photo as well.

5. On second thought
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 01:43 AM by RagingInMiami
I think the best and most convenient way to do it would be to start another thread with Spirit of New Orleans photos that were not taken in the Big Easy.

And when that fills up, we'll take that thread, along with the other New Orleans thread that Peacebuzzard started, and post the links in a lounge thread, explaining what we did.

That way, people can submit as many as they want and it will remain informal.

EDIT: That way, if anybody in the lounge has New Orleans photos, they can add to the thread. This can turn out to be a very nice tribute to the Big Easy.

4. Tahiti Nut
It was Tahiti Nut that came up with the "Spirit of New Orleans" concept.

A hell of an idea.

7. It wasn't me who mentioned it...
I said I didn't have any pictures of New Orleans but I thought it was a great idea. Whoever responded to me suggested the "essence" part. About the best I can do is take a picture of my little jar of homemade Cajun spice mix. :(

8. Good idea.
I'm not sure there's anything in Baltimore that would remind of NO, but I could try. And I'd be very happy to see what others can come up with.

9. I remembered that I have a hand-painted ceramic mask
that my daughter brought me back from NO probably 10 years ago, so I'm not as bereft of memorabilia as I thought. Yay!
