I am keeping an eye on that there may be a tie for first with photos that could not be more similar in theme.

2. Thanks, Mira! I thought maybe I should establish a definite end time

here so that it didn't look like I was letting it go on and on in hopes of favoring a particular shot. Also, I didn't want to wait until midnight like I had originally planned because that may be too late for some East Coasters, and then they would have to wait until the next day to see what had happened.

3. For what this opinion is worth to you:

I think the weekend is a good time for voting, and all voting is best if there is some weekend time. But weekday time is important as well.

I would set an exact time for it to end and establish and publish it now, and include some of Monday.
Then I would set an alarm for myself and at the moment of the end write down the count.
The mods can't end it on the exact moment, but you can with your records.

With a contest this close it's the only way to not have the invariable straggler who puts in a vote after it's over change the outcome.

4. I started on Friday, but do you think Mondays are better than fridays for the weekday choice?

5. Not at all.

I don't know anything, really. My gut says that there are different viewing habits for people weekdays and weekends, and that I'd rather have more weekday than weekend, but definitely if at all possible a mix of both.

6. Yeah, I agree that we should cover both to reach more people, but what the

"right" mix is I dunno. My guess is that it's going to be pretty hit or miss no matter what days we choose.

Maybe people who really love voting in the polls put it on their calendars to make sure they don't miss it? (Hey, we can hope right?)

7. That's why I try to run contests I host...

...with the preliminaries from Thursday to Saturday, and the finals from Sunday to Tuesday. That way, each poll has two weekdays and one weekend day, and it balances out.
