An assortment of pics from my stay in Vienna,
mostly of inanimate objects, with a couple of exceptions. I just thought I'd share some of them with you to wrap up my trip.

I'll start with some architectural shots. Sorry about the ones turned on their sides-I hope you don't find this annoying.

The extravagantly opulent Kunsthistorisches Museum

detail from a couple of paintings in the KHM

Some cool trompe l'oeil painting in a Jesuit church (the cupola is fake)

I liked the dynamics of this picture. It was just a random shot-I have no idea who these people were.

a doggie in front of an antique store-nothing special really.

Mozart

a fountain-this dude didn't look to pleased to have his picture taken

I like caryatids! These were sort of "unheimlich"- spooky, though!

A marzipan cake! :D

Last glimpse of Vienna from the air as I left.

1. Well, I disagree about the dog
He is indeed special, albeit he looks like he should be "in" the antique store.

Did you capture a flying saucer in that last one?
The incredible opulence of some of this shots just rocks my boat. What an age that must have been to live in... if you were of the right class.

6. Didn't mean to disparage the old doggie!
Was rather thinking of the quality of my photo. He does look like he belongs in there among the antiques!

Funny, I didn't notice the UFO until after I got home! Amazing! :D

You're right, if one wasn't in the right class, one could very well end up like the poor fellow with the lute strapped to his back!
I sometimes wonder whether we're going to return to those "good old days".

2. Honestly.
It is not possible for me to talk about the photos. Only about my emotion. A number of them are familiar to me, after all Vienna is not that huge and I lived and visited there as a young person.
It's the town of my cousins and grandparents and many are still there. My mother's home town.
So I sit here with tears in my eyes, and a little homesick.

For whoever reads this: Trusty Elf went and photographed for me the street where I lived, the houses, the entrance of the house, the back yard.
I now have memories revived, and am astonished at details I remember. Nothing visual escapes me much, it's the other things where my memory is sketchy :)

Now here is what I've been singing and humming since I saw the photos:

Vienna, City of my Dreams.

4. Whoa! My computer died on me
and apparently my reply got lost in cyberspace. My apologies.

Anyway, your photos are fabulous, and they do bring back memories of my trip to Vienna, oh so many years ago, but your "marzipan cake" brings bask such fond memories of my mom - thank you.

9. Apparently your computer, like the Phoenix, has risen from the ashes!
Which is good! I'm glad!

Thanks for your response Callalily! I'm happy that you enjoyed these photos, and that they brought back some fond memories.

I sent the marzipan pic to my father-in-law, and he, being a real marzipan nut, said that it made his mouth water!

If you understand German, this is what he wrote me-it's very expressively put!

"Das sieht so verlockend und gluschtig aus, dass mir das Wasser im Munde zusammenfliesst, ein herrliches Bild für einen Marzipan-Liebhaber!!!!!!!!!!"

:hi:

By the way, Callalily is a beautiful name!

11. Here's the translation babelfish gave me
That looks so enticing and gluschtig that me the water in the mouth flows together, a wonderful picture for a Marzipan lover!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a translation for "gluschtig"?

12. All I can imagine it might be is "lustig"
that means funny and delightful. Bottom line: there is no such word to my knowledge.

13. "gluschtig" is Swiss German :-D
There isn't any direct German equivalent. It means enticing or appealing.

You can use the Photobucket editor to rotate them without altering the link.

8. Thanks HD
Well, of course I could have posted them correctly oriented, but then one would have to scroll the photo to see the whole thing. Or maybe I'm silly :D Let me see how that looks....

I guess it depends on how big your monitor is.

10. Yes, I did have to scroll down
but at my age, it's easier than cocking my head to the left

14. In the future, I'll post stuff so that one doesn't have to turn ones head.
It is a nuisance to have to do that.

:hi:
