So, since Bowtie Boy appears to have bogarted the News Quiz...
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 12:10 AM by crispini
... the little putz... let's come up with some creative suggestions for things to put in its slot. It's not that I don't LIKE the Friday Top Five, but it just doesn't have quite the same charm and effervescence as the News Quiz.

Serious AND humorous suggestions, why not?

My thoughts:
- let the viewers vote on what the top five stories are each week via a web poll or something. this could be interesting, they could put on funny stories or a mix of funny and straight news stories to see what they got.
- let Keith do a commentary or something.
- do the "most missed" story-- kind of a "most interesting story that you HAVEN'T heard about all week."
- Weekly vote on "worst tie" followed by ritual on-air tie burning. :P

ok, creative peeps, cough up the ideas. :7

1. I like the idea of the "most missed" story best
followed by the "Keith commentary". Okay, I like the idea that we could cull his clothing collection, but he might not appreciate that, and if that idea were implemented, there would have to be limits -- i.e., the goal shouldn't be to leave him naked after X weeks elapse!

2. Why not? ;-)
And you're beating me to the punch. I was just about to suggest...strip poker. With Keith as the only contestant. (I really wouldn't want him to be naked on the set with anyone else.) Just not sure how that would work out...I don't suppose strip solitaire would cut it...

I'll have to think about this some more. But seriously, I do like the idea of Most Overlooked Story of the Week. Five minutes to let Keith rant on what HE wants to rant on, whether or not it's something his producers think will score big ratings by covering it.

(You know what that means. Next week: "Is there such a thing as a 'clutch hitter'? Here's a new research study that says there is..." Jut kiddin'.)

3. LOL.
WRT: Stripcast news.... now we really ARE getting into "Network" territory, aren't we?

And, yeah, it would be amusing if they did "Most Overlooked News" and it was a baseball story Every. Single. Week. :P

5. Wait... why is Bowtie Boy getting the News Quiz?
I musta missed this revelation.

Of course, I'll never see it again if it's on *ucker's show because I never will be watching that shit.

6. speculation is that the format of his show
resembles the News Quiz, hence its disappearance from Countdown. We won't really know until his show airs -- and we might not know even then, since Tucker's attempt at a News Quiz might fall so flat as to not be recognizable as the segment we all seem to be so fond of.

7. Well, the Tucker Carlson promos they've been showing
seem to have a "Quiz"-like format ... have you seen them? He's got five topics up on the lower left hand corner of the screen with a timer on each topic. It's hard to tell if he's answering questions or just talking about the topic but it does seem to have, at the very least, a similar feel. Ok, no, it's not the SAME thing, but someone (I think it was Berry) hypothesized that the Quiz disappearance had something to do with the appearance of Bowtie Boy's new show and I have to admit, the promo I saw really kind of supported that. Who knows?

That, and I just wanted to use the word "bogart" in a topic. :P

Do tell the story.

I was using it in the sense of "don't hog all of the (insert thing here), man!"

Hee, here's what UrbanDictionary.com has to say. I didn't know it really was connected with Bogie!

(slang verb) To keep something all for oneself, thus depriving anyone else of having any. A slang term derived from the last name of famous actor Humphrey Bogart because he often kept a cigarette in the corner of his mouth, seemingly never actually drawing on it or smoking it. Often used with weed or joints but can be applied to anything.

11. I knew the definition of the term. Bogart allegedly got the scar
while transferring a naval prisoner during WWI. The prisoner asked for a cigarette and a light. When Bogart attempted to comply with this request, the handcuffed prisoner punched him in the mouth and tried (unsuccessfully) to escape.

12. Well, folks, all I know is this
Whenever Bowtie Boy appears on my screen saying "But you have to be DEAD to be a legend!"...

...I yell at my TV, "Tucker, that can be ARRANGED!"
