My mom's not doing very well
She went back into the hospital yesterday. Seems she got an infection, probably from the stent the put in two weeks ago. She's in ICU on a respirator. They're keeping her comfortable, but she's sedated and doesn't even know when we're there. They tell us she may hang on for a week or so, but it probably won't even be that long. We're taking it day by day for now. I saw her Friday, the day before I left for Chicago, and she was doing pretty well at home.

The only blessing is that she won't have to go through months and months of chemo, getting sicker and sicker. It's hard on us, but will be easier for her. I think she's just given up. She's always been a strong woman and I don't think she could bear living as an invalid or being a burden on anyone.

4. Thanks, Berry.
There's really not much I can do for her now. My father doesn't want to spend much time at the hospital, since she doesn't even know we're there.

This is such a difficult time. There really aren't words. There's just this feeling that seems to hover over you. I remember that feeling. You can be in a room filled with people but you feel alone. Just know that you aren't alone. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I really appreciate it. I'm okay until I start talking to someone or think too much. I'm glad I've got Nancy's campaign to keep me busy when I'm not at work. I just never dreamed when I saw her last Friday that anything like this would happen so quickly.

20. Oh Sharon, I'm so so sorry
This is all happening so quickly, you all must be in shock. I hope you have some time where she is able to speak with you and know you are there.
There really is nothing to say to make it any easier although I wish there was.
I will try and give you a call tomorrow.

Call me on my cell rather than at work, as I may take the day off -- especially if we get the snow we're supposed to get.

Yes, it happened much faster than we expected. I seriously doubt I'll ever be able to speak to her again.

worse. There just are no words. I will keep you and her and the family in my prayers. Remember we are here for you and to lean on us when you need to and even when you don't think you need to. I wish I were close enough to give you a  in real life but will have to settle for the virtual one. :hug:s

25. Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear about this.
Botany (bless his heart) sent me an e-mail to let me know.

You know I love you. Just remember that during this time, your mom may be more aware of you being there than she is able to respond. You will never regret spending time with her, so tell her all the things you want to tell her, and give her permission to go, if it's her time.

Also, remember that most hospitals have chaplains available, who are well-trained in dealing with these situations. Don't be afraid to reach out, because that's what they do.

And, of course, you can call me anytime if you just need to talk.
You and your family are in my prayers.:hug::hug:

27. Thanks so much, Rev
The nurse tells us she's so heavily sedated she really isn't aware of us when we're there. I have a lot of trouble talking to her and seeing her like this. I took the day off, partially because of the weather and partially because I knew I'd be no good at work. I'm debating now whether I want to get dressed and go out or not.

Thanks for your prayers.

We're just taking it day by day. They're keeping her comfortable, but it probably won't be much longer.
